    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I enjoyed learning about a business area I knew very little about. The work was interesting and varied

    4/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I always felt valued in my team, and that the work I did made a difference

    4/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • The support I received was brilliant. Every member of the team was willing to help and would show me how something was done if I ever had a problem. Everyone was always very approachable.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • It varied from day to day, some days I had a lot to do in little time and other days the work was quite spaced out. This was because a lot of my extra responsibilities were based on monthly iterations

    3/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • A good amount of responsibility, it started low and as I grew in competence I was responsible for a lot more

    3/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I gained a lot of transferable skills that will be useful for university, but also for employment after that. These skills include, teamwork, leadership, communication and presentation skills

    4/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • There wasn't a very lively atmosphere in the office, but I wouldn't expect there to be in an office.

    2/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • Well organised. It did everything you would expect. There was an induction at the start which helped everyone to understand exactly what was expected and lots of meetings to make sure we were up to date with what would be happening

    3/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • Other than the placement opportunity itself, they didn't

    2/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Working from home

    1/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • They look good and well run but it is not a career I want to pursue

    3/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • There are 250 intern in IBM, with about 30 where I was based, we often got together out of work time and there were one or two events to bring everyone together

    4/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • In portsmouth it was pretty cheap. Rent was very affordable and things were close by

    4/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Okay, there is a big University nearby. It was good but could have been better

    3/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • Yes there were a few sports teams and events, if you are looking for them they are easy to find
