The Role
I enjoyed learning about a business area I knew very little about. The work was interesting and varied
I always felt valued in my team, and that the work I did made a difference
The support I received was brilliant. Every member of the team was willing to help and would show me how something was done if I ever had a problem. Everyone was always very approachable.
It varied from day to day, some days I had a lot to do in little time and other days the work was quite spaced out. This was because a lot of my extra responsibilities were based on monthly iterations
A good amount of responsibility, it started low and as I grew in competence I was responsible for a lot more
I gained a lot of transferable skills that will be useful for university, but also for employment after that. These skills include, teamwork, leadership, communication and presentation skills
The Company
There wasn't a very lively atmosphere in the office, but I wouldn't expect there to be in an office.
Well organised. It did everything you would expect. There was an induction at the start which helped everyone to understand exactly what was expected and lots of meetings to make sure we were up to date with what would be happening
Other than the placement opportunity itself, they didn't
Working from home
They look good and well run but it is not a career I want to pursue
The Culture
There are 250 intern in IBM, with about 30 where I was based, we often got together out of work time and there were one or two events to bring everyone together
In portsmouth it was pretty cheap. Rent was very affordable and things were close by
Okay, there is a big University nearby. It was good but could have been better
Yes there were a few sports teams and events, if you are looking for them they are easy to find
