The Role
I have really enjoyed my placement year at GSK working in the Consumer Healthcare Marketing Department. I have been given real responsibility and felt fully integrated into the team! It’s been great feeling like the work I’ve completed has had a real impact to the team, company and target consumer!
I love my team so much, they have fully accepted me in to the team and given me projects that are both challenging and fit with my development areas. We also do things together outside of work like going to the pub which has really helped to build our collaborative working environment.
I have been lucky enough to report into more than one manager and they have all been fully supportive and offered guidance when I feel I needed it. They are also happy for give me space to own my projects and add my own stamp to my work which is great as I like to work independently.
Business is a hard one to measure as it varies depending on business needs. There were days were I was super busy preparing for a campaign launch and other days were it has been quieter. I think it is good to get a balance so you can see how you work under pressure
I was given full responsibility to plan and lead all aspects of certain projects. However I also knew that if I needed any support my team and colleagues would be there to support me. I am an independent worker and loved being able to fully own projects from start to finish
I feel like I leave this placement with numerous skills which will help me next year as I prepare to complete my degree. Most noticeably, juggling numerous projects and timelines, organisation, excel skills and communication skills. My confidence in presenting has also improved hugely which is something I really happy about
The Company
The atmosphere of the office is another tricky one to comment on as it changes situationally. However overall the office environment is an extremely positive one, with people always chatting and having a good time! The new social team on our floor also ensured there are events planned ahead in the calendar to keep people socialising
The organisation of my placement has been great. As soon as I arrived I felt welcome and had lots of work planned out for me. The onboarding process was also smooth. I would have benefitted from having a handover with the student who has previously been in my role, but he had gone travelling
This side of my placement has been incredible, I have undertaken so many training courses I’ve lost track! Most noticeably, the presentation skills workshop and finance made simple were great. The drive for digital initiatives have also resulted in great training modules and sessions on search optimisation and the importance of ecommerce

Company Parties/Events
I would definitelt consider working at GSK again. I have loved the team and the job I’ve been doing this year. The company great and I’ve made some fab friends. I am conscious however that there are so many opportunities out there and you never know how assessment centres may go!
The Culture
Yes, IP Unite has been great organising total IP events such as he Christmas party and summer boat party. There have also been some amazing events as part of my floor and the team! There tends to be an event at least once a month, there’s so much to get involved with too to help meet new people
Working in London is expensive for transport, rent and bills. However you can cover it if you are frugal! I’ve loved being able to live with other placement students and within a 2 minute walk to the tube/ local shops and park. I think next time I would look at other areas to save some money on rent
There is soooo much to do in London!! It’s great, ranges from night clubs, pubs, quizzes, parks, cinema. Honestly the options are endless it’s been so good. And there are so many placement students there are always people to spend your time with! The theatre at the West end has also been fab
Yes I got involved with the Netball team at GSK on my floor and the charity team too! There were lots of opportunities to volunteer with GSK charities and go on runs/ use the gym and gym classes. There is loads to do in the local area it’s great fun
