The Role
Overall, I really enjoyed my placement. Even though the role wasn't exactly what I had expected, it allowed me to gain an insight into Finance and Digital. My immediate team were also great which made things a lot easier.
I felt valued by my colleagues the vast majority of times, however, at some points I felt I was given the tasks which nobody else wanted to do. Although, that is expected from an intern I suppose.
There wasn't much need for formal training - it was mainly learning as I went along during the year which was fine. I did not receive a proper handover from the prior intern though as they had already left by the time I joined which made the first few weeks challenging.
I was pretty busy most days, especially the months prior to the launch of the new Pro Sony website.
I felt like I was given a good amount of responsibility, more than I had initially expected.
As this was my first office-type job, it has been very helpful in terms of learning how to communicate with others in a business environment.
The Company
As previously mentioned, most members of my team were outgoing and very easy to get along with.
There were development days where all the interns from both offices would meet up but I did not feel like I learned all that much from these days. Although the social aspect was good.
Subsidised/Company Gym
Company Parties/Events
Staff Sales/Staff Shop
Working from home
Even though the graduate scheme had been recently started back up, there wasn't any information about this communicated to the interns.
The Culture
Most interns got on well with each other and we would all go out every so often.
Cost of living is fairly high, a large chunk of my monthly wage goes towards rent and bills.
Barely any places to go out in Basingstoke.
