The Role
It has been a good real world experience to learn what it is like to be working in industry and what an office environment is like day to day. Technically I work have liked to have been challenged a bit more but I've had plenty of opportunities to work on a variety of skills!
Very much so, the small team of people that I work with means that there is a lot of time to get to know each other both in terms of work and socially which has been a brilliant experience. The team have not held back from giving me any type of work because they trust in my abilities and know if need be that I'm happy to ask for help.
As much as I've needed! My manager has been very good with me this year and got me involved with as much as possible. If I've ever needed help he has been more than willing to help me or send me in the right direction to get help. He has given advice when I've not been sure on what approach to take with certain projects too.
It varies from day to day. Some weeks have been non stop and challenging to get everything done but others have been quiet and needed time to be filled with more mundane tasks. This has probably been as a result of the recent PSA takeover however causing uncertainty in certain aspects of job roles.
Alot! I think that is one of the best parts of having a placement at Vauxhall, all of the undergraduates are treated as equal to employees so it is less of a placement and more of a full time role. That in itself is the most rewarding part of the job to feel valued.
Having undertaken various projects this year I have learnt a lot in the process of how project reporting and dissertation writing is achieved which will be very helpful going back to my masters next year. Technically however I do not feel as though my skills have developed greatly beyond that of which I have learnt at uni. Practically more has happened than at uni but not at an incredibly advanced level.
The Company
Interestingly my offices moved about 3 months into my placement so I have had to deal with 2 difference office environments. The first was louder and more jokey between colleagues whereas the 2nd is busier with a variety of departments so noise levels are less as people have to respect different departments but there is more of a closeness so it has been good to experience both!
Very well, Vauxhall have a number of activities put on throughout the year specifically for undergraduates to either organize and run or to take part in which is very rewarding. From school visits, to schools coming to visit, PSA workshops and organising safety week there has been a large variety of activities for us to get stuck in to.
Red X certifications have been the extent of the additional funded training that I have taken part in. The apprenticeship level was a 2 day course and examination and then the journeyman certification was a 3 day course with examination at the end. These were both funded by the company.

That is quite difficult to answer at the moment as with what I mentioned earlier, the uncertainty caused by the PSA takeover, the company is certainly moving in the right direction and will be successful but I am unsure as to what roles will be available within the new company structure.
The Culture
Yes definitely, the first 2 weeks had a handover period where a lot of social activities between new and old undergraduates took place. There have also been various activities and events which have taken place throughout the year from foot golf and bowling to nights out which has kept everyone in touch.
As luton counts as the outskirts of London to a lot of landlords rent is not particularly cheap but also not ridiculously expensive allowing undergrads to save a good amount of money if they choose to save. Socializing is varied depending on the activity but you can make it as cheap or as expensive as you choose.
Luton itself is not amazing, however with the 2 train stations in luton we regularly meet in a luton pub and then get the train to either local towns and enjoy a night out there or occasionally into London which is really accessible with a direct train taking not very long.
Not as much as I would have liked. Undergrads themselves organized whatever activities there were but obviously this takes time and people have different plans or weekends such as visiting uni friends or going home, this resulted in it being quite difficult to get activities where large groups could partake.
