The Role
I have thoroughly enjoyed my placement year at IBM. The structure created to support interns has been incredible, allowing us to develop skills both inside and outside of our regular job role criteria.
On almost a daily basis, I reminded of the importance of my role within the team whether this be through results, feedback or completion of various exercises. Having such a large extending team was great as I was able to experience how each role fit in to the wider picture in producing results for our client.
The Support on my placement year was incredible. Collaborating with my managers to produce results for the client allowed me to pick up and develop new skills. I was also given the freedom to explore other aspects of the company by attending numerous workshops and experiences.
I was extremely happy with my workload during my placement year. Being busy and having numerous deadlines which regularly overlapped gave me a great experience of full time employment. I was always treated like an experienced hire rather than an intern which again boosted my experience over the year.
I was surprised with the amount of responsibility granted during the placement year. Collaborating with a prestigious client meant that I was representing the company on almost a daily basis. This put into perspective how important my role was and allowed me to develop skills that I can take on into any workplace.
Gaining this taste of full time employment has provided me with numerous skills that I can now take on into multiple work environments. The resources provided have allowed me to develop further than my degree and have increased my prospects dramatically.
The Company
Being in such a large office in the heart of London meant that there was always important people around. The busy rush of working life filtered down to interns and the set up in the office allowed the flexibility of quiet independent work also.
