The Role
My placement has been a success from start to finish. I feel I have developed no end and that the experience I have gained will stand me a good stead for future employment. The work I completed was enjoyable and the team that I was based in definitely had a big impact on how much I enjoyed the placement.
I felt very valued. This was because at Mace everyone sees each other as a cog in the wheel that must keep turning and it relies on everyone doing their job well, although I wasn't a senior member I still felt valued along with the importance of my contribution to the business.
My line manager and outer team guided me and have aided my learning experience as well as directing me to the correct and most efficient way to complete my everyday tasks. The support wasn't overwhelming and it was there when needed..
I was busy probably after the first 2 weeks, which I thought was a fair settling in period. Since then I have been busy but not overworked and rarely have to stay beyond my core hours to complete tasks. If work became slack all I had to do was ask for something extra and resource is always welcome even if in a different team to my own.
The responsibility given to me grew exponentially and towards the end of my placement I was often getting on with my own work, undirected due to a gradual build up over the year. It's not a case of being dropped in at the deep end either, you get responsibility fed to you as assessed.
To a great extent. This experience has developed me more than my previous two years of university, it has given me skills in various technical and soft areas and I have gained an employment opportunity from it as well. It will be invaluable for my future
The Company
Friendly and helpful. People take an interest in your personal life and you build relationships that are carried into after work hours. Moe professional relationships are also formed that will help knowledge share in the future and can also help when future career opportunities are considered, either at Mace or other businesses.
Very well organized. The emerging talent team were engaged from the on-boarding time right up until we were ready to leave Mace. We had regular placement training sessions and the recruitment process was well organized.
I attended regular placement training sessions that were mainly non-technical and based around other placement roles and soft skills but I also was part of training within my department that covered more technical knowledge. I was also given the opportunity to be involved in training towards gaining chartership which was invaluable.

Very appealing. They are well paid, come with several benefits, are for a industry leading company, include structured training, are available in a variety of locations and I know the company and my team well now so this attracts me more to come back to work for Mace in the future.
The Culture
There were opportunities available to connect with placements in other business areas outside of work and we were fairly social. Events organized by mace were the most successful and most of the placements turned up for drinks organized by emerging talent. The group is brought together regularly so it helps for the social aspect.
The cost of living is high, at head office in the City of London, it was always expected.
Very good, there are plenty of bars and clubs where people go on week nights and weekends.
A lot, at Mace there is a paid volunteering day given every year so that is something interesting. Also I have been involved in the 5 a side football team and also have gone to several networking events after work organized by Mace and also other business' that we work with.
