The Role
The placement opportunity I have been given has made a substantial impact on the road to my ideal career. The style of work, the environment and the people I work with have all contributed to making my time within Siemens as best it could possibly be.The work was engaging and it challenged me to push myself further. I would definitely recommend a placement opportunity to my acquaintances if they are given the chance to do so.
From the beginning of my placement, no doubt to the end of I have felt like a valued and respected member of the team. Everyone has been very welcome and accommodating and nothing has ever been too much trouble. What I like the most is now nice the working relationships are with everyone in my own department and across the entire site. My opinions or choices/decisions matter and they are respected as am I.
If I was ever in need of any assistance on any matter, whether it was work, project related or related to holidays/learning I had the full support of my manager and supervisors. The amount of guidance and support I've received over my placement has increased my confidence further both in the workplace and with the skills I use within my job.
Throughout the entirety of my placement I was given tasks to assist my colleagues in particular projects that were being created. On a daily basis I would have a list of tasks that would either be set by myself of by my colleagues that I would work through until completion. The tasks themselves would usually be wrote down in terms of scale and priority just to maximize the efficiency of the tasks.
At the beginning of my placement I was responsible for helping the existing placement student with his current project. As the months progressed I was given more projects to do on my own, with assistance there if needed. I am currently working on my biggest project to date which will be implemented into the core software architecture of our departments critical piece of software.
The skills that I have learnt from my experiences and projects within this placement have bolstered existing skills and practices I originally brought from my university studies, as well as learning new practices that I'll be able to implement into my course. I have found new ways to create solutions and fix problems that occur as well as skills that can carried into everyday events.
The Company
The atmosphere is always buzzing, there is never a dull moment inside the office and everyone is always working hard while having a slightly relaxed approach. There is always lots of laughter amongst the work within our office and it is a pleasure to come in to work everyday and get straight into work.
There was very few issues with the organization of my work placement, everything was catered and tailored to help benefit me through the entirety of the placement itself.
I've been enrolled on the intern development program, which consisted of sessions to help improve or learn new and existing skills I have, to implement into work and everyday life.
Company Parties/Events
I currently have had my contract for my placement extended by two months, with the hopes that once my degree has been finished I'll be able to apply for a job within the department I'm working. There is a lot of room for growth and development within Siemens so it will be interesting to see where it takes me.
The Culture
It genuinely feels like it's just one big family, everyone is really easy to approach and talk to.
I commute from home there for I don't live within the area.
I don't usually go out on a night where I work.
There is always e-mails circulating the department to do with volunteering and social events planned throughout the week. We are always kept up to date on any events and days where activities get organized.
