The Role
I really enjoyed my placement with Mace. I gained an insight of working in a professional environment and learned the practical sides to my course.
My project team were all so welcoming and friendly, which really helped me settle into my placement. Couldn't of worked with better people.
My manager and the team in my field were always on hand to help if I needed it. They guided me through things when I was unsure and were patient when I did not understand things.
Sometimes I found I didn't have enough work to do.
I was not given a lot of responsibility due to the lack of experience and knowledge about my role. However gradually throughout the year I was given more responsibility including procuring packages etc.
My placement year has really helped me expand my knowledge on how the construction industry works and I believe I will always look back on this experience as a good learning opportunity. From university to working is such a big change and difference in daily activities. I feel I will now be more confident when exposing myself in the industry in the future.
The Company
The atmosphere was comfortable and even though I was shy at the start, everyone there made me feel at ease.
It was well organized. The only negative I'd say is sometimes I would run out of work.
I had attended a lot of courses with has helped me further develop my knowledge.
Company Parties/Events
Mace offer a graduate scheme to all of their placement students under the conditions of them completing the placement year successfully. They are great with keeping their employees interested in future schemes.
The Culture
There were a lot of placement events, communications events and personally in my project a lot of socializing events outside of work. It was good to meet the placements students every few months.
Coming from up North, coming to London for me was a struggle as I am not used to spending so much money on rent and cost of living.
Working near to Shoreditch it was always lively.
There were volunteering activities we could get involved in.
