The Role
Hays has provided me with fantastic skills, experience, training and knowledge which will stay with me forever. I really enjoyed my placement, however the amount of stress, long hours and responsibility, at times, did detract from the overall enjoyment of the placement.
My colleagues are superb. We really have formed a Hays family. The management team, directors and business managers treat you on an equal level to them, and encourage an integrated culture. Everyone has similar values and a collective consciousness. This made work highly enjoyable.
I was provided with excellent support by the management team and trainers. From comprehensive training to monthly sales plan; the management team were more than happy to help you grow and progress.
Each day was extremely busy. As an intern on a 360 desk it did test your endurance to the maximum, and it did come with its stresses and frustrations, however this experience is what a placement is about. Learning everything there is to know about the work place.
I was given the responsibility of a 360 degree desk. This involved independently managing the CL1 contract for the North West, recruiting for the Environment Agency and the NHS Blood and Transplant, as well as resourcing for Her Majesty's Prison Service and Public Sector Office Support roles.
The formal training and day to day informal training assisted me in learning skills, experiences and knowledge to take away with me and apply to my degree and beyond.
The Company
The overall atmosphere in the office was great, and it did vary on a day to day basis. Team events and national BD days really brought the office to light.
The internship was very structured and organised. Information that was provided was accurate and informative. Intern events were also put on throughout the duration of the placement.
There was several training sessions throughout the placement, as well as an all-expenses 4 day trip to London with Hays Trainers.
Hays is a fantastic organisation to work for, and it really does its best to create the nicest working environments for its staff. For this reason I would love to come back, however the long days and lack of flexibility does deter me because each week I was completely exhausted.
The Culture
I was the only intern in my office so I cannot particularly comment on the above, however the social scene among the office was great.
This is my home town, so I am living with my partner paying £300 rent per month, and I require a further £500 to cover other expenses. So the wage just about covered £200 per month for socialising & personal spends.
