The Role
I really enjoyed my placement at IBM as I don't believe a lot of companies offer the opportunity to grow and learn that IBM offers. During my placement I was a valuable member of the IBM team.
I had a very good relationships with my team, interns and managers. I felt like I was listened, my ideas were valued and everyone was very friendly. It was very easy to have a chat with someone and get to know what they do.
I was given a lot of support from my manager, especially at the beginning when I didn't grasp the role straight away. My manager was always happy to answer my questions.
I was quite busy on a daily basis, but it depended a lot on the time of the month/year etc.
IBM gave me a lot of responsibility, the advantage being the support that I had from managers. It was a great way to learn how to be independent and make decisions on my own.
I believe the skills developed will help me in both my degree and future jobs! I improved my Excel skills, presentation skills and I work more efficiently in a team.
The Company
The atmosphere in my office was a nice mix, as I was sitting with interns. Sometimes we would engage in conversation, but other times it was quite as we were all busy.
The placement was well organised as we had support throughout. It was up to me what I got involved in, but I also had suggestions from my managers.
IBM invested in me as all the work that I've done developed my skills and personality. By having reviews, our managers made sure that we were happy and that we were on the right track. One improvement would be more intern events.

The future employment prospects are appealing, and I hope I will get a graduate role at IBM. I believe interns have a big chance if they have a successful placement year.
The Culture
Yes, the interns that I sat with were social and we sometimes went for lunch or drinks together. IBM has a good intern community.
London is expensive and rent and travel costs are high. However, by working in IBM Southbank I had the advantage of being in central London.
I've never went out in the area that I worked.
In London there are countless activities to get involved in, such as markets, concerts, sports. It is a very good place for a social life, should you have the money.
