The Role
I was placed directly working with a full team on a real project. being given a full introduction to the system, workflow and the team, I was ready to begin working, and any time I had any issues my colleagues would be there to help. One of the most important things, I think, is the fact that they didn't expect me to be perfect and allowed me to make mistakes, correcting me as I worked.
for the most part all of my colleagues were very helpful, useful and supporting. Not only would they help me whenever I reached out, they would point out things I can do to improve myself, and later on, they would reach out to me as I knew more about the system and was able to help them back
At the beginning, my Manager (and supervisor) was able to dedicate all the time required to help me as needed. He would let me try things out whenever I wanted to try without guidance and allowed me to take responsibility for myself. I never felt intimidated or inferior to him.
For the most part, I have been busy to the point that I don't realize it's time to leave already. But not in a bad way, I always got breathers, little coffee breaks and my full lunch break without issues. The only reason I was so full is because I was so invested in the work
Almost too much! I am currently the "owner" of a small (yet important) service as it was completely written by me and only looked at by one other team member, and I worked in other services and have as much knowledge and understanding about said services as any other one of my teammates do.
(TBD). I have been working in web development for the past two years of University, and I planned to do so again for my final year. After working here I have learnt a lot more and heavily increased my confidence. All the skills I learnt will go to making my Final year project that much better
The Company
Office is sometimes quiet, sometimes buzzing, but its always a positive atmosphere (even when things go wrong!). All of the team members sat within a few metres of each other, close enough to be able to have an important conversation when a DM response isn't quite as quick as you'd like.
Since I was placed in with a real team, on a real project, the placement was as organised as a real project would be. Some parts were a bit messy and could've been organised better, but that gave me an idea of the every day circumstances a project can go through
there were some lunch clubs and audio/video conferences. Nothing too special, although I could apply to any course that permanent workers could apply to, allowing me to get some real training with real certifications rather than any random intern course aimed at lower levels or more inexperienced people. They expected as much from me as from anyone else
Flexi Time
Company Parties/Events
Above 25 days holiday
Working from home
My only issue with this placement is the location. It is very far away from family and friends, making it a hard decision whether I carry on working here or not
The Culture
I met the other Interns and Graduates at lunch once, they always hang out together and I sometimes have lunch with my teammates and sometimes with the other students. A night out would sometimes be planned out in my team, though what you'd do really depended on who you're connecting with.
cheap enough to live in comfortably, but travelling back and forth to see family and friends makes it a struggle to save up. very small city, and so the easiest way to socialise will be to go out with your workmates
Not Applicable. I'm not a big nightlife fan so I never did anything except have the occasional dinner out. (although most places/shops/restaurants close relatively early)
If you network with the right people, you might get to go out and explore different places nearby etc. Apart from that it's not the easiest place to meet people as its a very small city/community
