    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I enjoyed my placement year at Sony as working for a large organisation gave me a real insight into what to expect in the future as well as helped me understand the logistics of a global business.

    4/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I felt valued within the team I was in, however, as our team is part of a bigger department, I felt that we were slightly isolated and therefore didn't have much communication.

    2/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • Throughout my placement year I have always had support from both my colleagues and my supervisor. This was one of the good things about working in a small team because you regularly discuss your progress with everyone which keeps everyone updated and helps identify areas of improvement.

    4/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • I usually have multiple tasks on a daily basis which I prefer as I like to constantly be doing something, however, after completing a major project there is a slight downfall in the amount of work available but that soon picks up again!

    4/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I felt that I was given a lot of responsibility since the first day I started which was a bit scary but also rewarding as it helped boost confidence in myself and also my programming skills.

    5/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I have learnt a lot over the course of my year at Sony and feel that the knowledge I have gained will directly be used in my study at University for my final year. Not only have I learnt about new languages and programming techniques but also improved my working style to work more effectively.

    4/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The office is usually quite busy and everyone is very talkative. As an intern, we regularly meet up at lunchtime and the atmosphere is always uplifting and usually involves playing ping pong and pool in the games room, which is a bundle of fun.

    4/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • We had a lot introduction days as well as SPY (Sony Placement Year) days which we were great for learning about the company. The overall work placement was organised in my team as we set our tasks and goals in advanced so that we always know what we're doing.

    4/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • We had the opportunity to havedays out of work to learn about different aspects of the company as well as attend regularly weekly training sessions within the office to learn about what other people in our department do.

    4/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Subsidised Canteen

    Sports and Social Club

    Subsidised/Company Gym

    Company Parties/Events

    Staff Sales/Staff Shop

    3/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • The company are always looking for new members to join their teams which is great. I think that the employment prospects at Sony are very exciting and if I was offered a graduate position I would be very interested.

    4/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Yes, there was a big team of student interns which meant we always met up and had lots of laughs. I was lucky to work with two other interns within my team so I always felt that the social scene was great. As well as this, our manager and other colleagues were great people to work with and we all got along inside and outside of work.

    4/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • I lived locally so I did not need to pay for accommodation.

    3/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Not brilliant.

    1/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • Yes, the Sony sport and social club had regular activities.
