The Role
I really loved my placement at Siemens this year. I was given full responsibility, and treated like any other team member - something I did not originally expect from a placement year. I have learnt just as much from this one year, as I have in two years at university. An invaluable experience.
I was trusted to carry out daily tasks, as well as long tern projects. I was a proper member of the team, and always felt valued.
I had weekly 1:1 meetings with my manager, as well as weekly team meetings. These helped me stay connected with my goals, as well as the team as a whole. If in need of help, I could ask anyone from any department, and the would be willing to offer support.
I had multiple daily tasks, which kept me busy for the majority of the day. As well as this, I had to deal with day-to-day problems and emails coming in, as well as two long-term projects, so I was never short of work to do.
I was given full responsibility, and treated like any other team member - something I did not originally expect from a placement year. If I wanted to take on more responsibility, such as a new project, or a process improvement, then I was encouraged to do so. Siemens allowed me to take on as much as I wanted, which really helped me improve throughout the year, when I become more familiar with regular day-to-day tasks.
The skills I gained from my year are invaluable. Time management, organisation and the ability to communicate with those in a more senior to me will all help in both an educational, and professional setting.
The Company
Really friendly, welcoming, somewhere I looked forward to going into in the morning.
It was ok, a few issues with HR and getting my initial permissions set up.
I attended three external training events during the year, plus two courses in-house.

Yes, I was with a lot of other uni students who were also on placement.

It was fairly average. Good for a couple of weekends out.
Yes, Siemens ran fitness classes and other social events for everyone to join.
