The Role
I enjoyed my Year in Industry a lot because it allowed me to be involved with many working projects that make an impact - you’re not there to make the tea! I went into the placement knowing nothing and left with a wealth of knowledge and experience with the Industry.
My colleagues have always valued my views and opinions, which means I have been able to form a good working relationship with them. They have always made me feel like I am part of the team and they view me as an equal rather than just a placement student - this has allowed me to mature into my role.
My line manager, supervisor and colleagues have always been on hand to help me if I am ever unsure of anything. They’ve always presented themselves with a good and friendly attitude which means I can easily approach them. The support I have had meant that I have learnt so much and as a result can now work more idenpendently and do my job well
There is always something that I can be doing and there are many projects currently ongoig in different areas that I can jump in on. This means that my placement has been varied as the projects are all in different areas of the Industry meaning that I can expand my knowledge.
I was given a lot of responsibility, meaning that I felt that like I was trusted my my manager and supervisor. This meant that I could develop my personal and technical skills a lot as the more responsibility I was given, the more I was able to develop throughout the year
I learnt many technical skills, such as using new softwares and programming languages- all of which ar incredibly useful for future roles and look great to any employers. The personal training I have received has also been so valuable because I feel more confident and ready to go into 3rd year and beyond.
The Company
The atmosphere in the office is great and everyone is relaxed and friendly, but always very productive. It means that it’s an environment that I can easily work in.
It was well organised - I was always given tasks to do and found something if I asked. The onboardibg process was good too.
They put me on training courses that would be valuable for current/future projects and for my career
National Travel
Company Parties/Events
Working from home
I would readily come back for a graduate role and would recommend the Internship to anyone looking for a placement year or summer placement.
The Culture
I was the only intern but that will change in future, but my colleagues have always made me feel comfortable and included.
It depends on the area in York you choose - SpareRoom is a good place to look!
York is a student city so I’d say the nightlife is quite good.
There are lots of groups and meet-ups you can go to.
