The Role
The first few weeks were slow starting due to a lack of guidance and support. However after this period I was placed into a new department and I have thoroughly enjoyed my work throughout the rest of the year. My work has been interesting, challenging and rewarding. I would recommend to any student to take on a work placement or internship as they are so valuable towards your future career and CV.
My colleagues have been incredibly supportive throughout the year and nothing has been too much to ask.
The manager I was allocated in my first few weeks provided little guidance and support however once allocated a new supervisor and department, the support & guidance has been endless. I have had regular reviews for both my project and personal development to track my progress.
The first few weeks of my internship were very slow and I had very little work to do. But once I was allocated my own project, I became very busy very quickly.
I've been given a great deal of responsibility over the course of year through my project work. It's been entirely up to me to manage and engage with stakeholders, manage the project timeline as well as risks involved and much more.
This placement year has provided me with experience within a global company which will not only benefit my final year of study, but also my future career. It has allowed me to put my studies into practice and also gain a range of skills in the area of Project Management.
The Company
The atmosphere in the office has been very lively and my department have been great fun to be around whilst remaining professional at the same time.
The office was not prepared for the interns arrival, we spent several weeks sat around with nothing to do and were unsure of what our actual job roles were.
This year I have completed my Intern Development Program through Siemens which has involved taking part in many informative training days. These training days have helped me begin to plan my future career and I have found them very valuable.

Siemens offer a Graduate Scheme which I will certainly be applying for.
The Culture
In total there are 31 interns based in Lincoln, we have organised many social events amongst ourselves which has been great.
I live at home in Lincoln so can't comment on the cost of living, but the cost of socialising isn't high.
The nightlife is good for a small city and isn't expensive.
There are plenty of gyms nearby both Siemens offices and also local sports groups.
