Marketing & Business Analysis Intern Review

I enjoyed working at Porsche greatly. I was lucky enough to get my first choice of placement and the perfect role for me. I was excited to start after seeing the job description but was pleasantly surprised at the extra roles the job involved which where not first mentioned. I would recommend anyone to apply for a job at Porsche.

Porsche is a highly motivating company to work for, the people you meet and will work with will release the potential within you. The staff have a wealth of knowledge and are always happy sharing this with you. In terms of feeling valued, I felt highly valued by my team. I had my own projects to oversee and was able to work independently.

At Porsche if you need support it is always available. Like any business it is fast paced and a high pressure environment but your colleagues are always happy to spare you some time to give you clarity and guidance. With this role you will be in constant contact with your supervisor who will guide you and will be available for you to check back with, however they will let you work independently if you are comfortable doing so.

No day is a dull day at Porsche. You are always busy and will always have work to be doing, this will vary from day to day. Work flow can sometimes be steady but also build up quickly depending on what projects are currently going on and what your team requires of you.

This placement is what you make of it. If you want more responsibility all you have to do is ask, you managers are conscious that this is a new experience for you so will be aware not to give you an overwhelming amount of responsibility but if you would like more just ask you more will be handed over to you.

The skills and experiences I have had during my time at Porsche are skills that will stay with me for the rest of my working life. The only skill that will help with degree studies is an increase in time management. The other skills will contribute greatly towards my future career prospects and has set a good base to build from.

The office atmosphere at Porsche is a positive one. You are surrounded with like minded people who are full of good idea's and suggestions of how to improve your work. The staff are friendly and sociable but also very passionate and motivated about the work they do. You will get a sense of this upon joining and will thrive and grow in an environment like this.

The work placement was very well organised. The Porsche HR department have years of experience of running a successful internship program and are improving aspects on a regular basis, this allows you to settle into work life quickly and hit the ground running. As a result you can be a contributing member of the team very quickly.

Porsche invest massively in the training of their staff and it is no difference for the interns. They will invest time and money into improving you and this will really motivate you to produce the best work possible. Working in the automotive sector Porsche will ensure you experience the full range of products they offer.

If I was offered to return to Porsche I would, however vacancies do not appear very often and staff turnover is limited. I feel I would benefit more from experiencing other businesses and then returning in the future when I have got more knowledge and experience. It is unlikely you will be offered a full time role after this internship as there is no graduate scheme.

With a large group of interns at Porsche the social scene is very good. You are all going through a similar experience and will be able to socialise in and out of work. Personally for me, having a large group of interns working at Porsche has made the experience more enjoyable for myself.

Living costs in Reading are high due to it being a commuter town to London. I did not experience these high living costs as I was able to live at home. Like any town in the south which is close to London the cost of socialising is what you would expect and is not the cheapest.

The nightlife in Reading is good but you can get bored of this quickly, however with the country surroundings there are many nice pubs. Alternatively you are so close to Oxford and London and would recommended exploring these areas. The nightlife in London and is accessible without having the higher living costs of being in the capital.

There were plenty opportunities to get involved in activated outside of work from 5 A-side football to quiz nights. These opportunities are what you make of them and I recommend making sure you get to know any many people at work as possible, this way you will be more likely to find out about these opportunities.
