About You
It was a fantastic program that gave us a huge amount of 'hands on' experience and exposure to what it could be like working here. Everyone was extremely friendly and I learnt so much in a very short period of time. I am very happy to have participated in the program.
From the moment I arrived I was made to feel welcome at Nomura. Already encouraged by the helpfulness of the Graduate Recruitment team via email correspondence, everyone at the firm from the receptionists to employees you encountered in the lift were helpful and friendly. It created the feeling of a lovely, supportive work environment where each team member is valued.
The staff managing the event struck a good balance between supporting the attendees when necessary, offering invaluable guidance throughout the lectures and panel sessions, whilst also allowing individual thought and encouraging innovation and independent work within the peer group during the group activities. This went a long way towards giving us the confidence to express opinions, ask questions when necessary and belief in our abilities.
This insight programme at Nomura is really beneficial for personal development and I will use the skills and knowledge that I develop during my time here in the future. I vastly developed my understanding of the investment sector and this is beneficial for my degree, as well as in future interviews.
The Company
The insight was very well structured and organised. There were hour long sessions during the entire day, each were intended to improve our understanding or skills in some way. The industry professionals were very interesting to talk to as this offered us a true insight into the industry we hope to enter in the future.
Throughout the insight, the atmosphere was very friendly and I felt that everyone was extremely approachable. There was also a very professional atmosphere throughout the insight. I also enjoyed the location of Nomura as it was in central London, the view was incredible and I was very impressed by the professional and 'smooth running' atmosphere at Nomura.
Whilst there was no formal 'training' due to the short nature of the programme, it is clear that Nomura invested a lot in my personal development by offering the opportunity to "shadow" Nomura staff in their daily professional operations. Nomura equally invested strongly by establishing panels who transferred their experience and views to the collective group.
Having spent the insight surrounded by extremely busy and yet extremely friendly and helpful people definitely allowed us to understand the company culture. The exposure to the trading floor allowed us to see the interaction between other employees and not only with us, and showed a fun and friendly and yet hard-working environment. Many of the employees spoke about their experiences within the company and highlighted the welcoming and supportive nature of Nomura as a corporation, both within the London office and abroad.
My time at Nomura reinforced to me that I do want to pursue a career in the financial sector. It was useful to understand the different areas of the bank and determine where my skills would be best suited. The content of the insight days was tailored at helping us realise our potential and where we would best be suited to pursue a career path, which I found to be very useful.
In my opinion this was the best aspect of the the insight program, there were various situations such as the Q & A panels, networking lunches and group tasks. I gained insight and many gave very valuable advice about careers in the industry. I have followed up on these connections by using LinkedIn.
Everything Else
I was reimbursed expenses for my time spent at Nomura.

I found them very valuable as I gained insight, advice and knowledge from professionals at Nomura. I also enjoyed getting to know my peers as they were all extremely motivated, hard working and interesting individuals.
We were given a building tour which showed the impressive facilities on offer to all Nomura employees, from the gym to the roof terrace overlooking the London skyline. I was impressed by the various societies and activities on offer to employees outside of work and encouraged by the holistic approach to life and promotion of a healthy work-life balance by the company, even within more demanding sectors such as Investment Banking.
I would absolutely recommend this insight to a friend!
