    About You

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
  • I really enjoyed the week I spend in the Wealth and Assets team at EY. As a biology student, this week has been my first experience of working in an office environment and I have found the culture at EY to be very welcoming and inclusive. I have had the opportunity to meet a range of people working at different levels within the business, from first years to partners, with everyone being friendly and happy to answer any questions I had.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued during your time at the company or firm?
  • Although I was only at the firm for a week, I still felt valued and welcomed during my time at EY. I was invited to all team meetings and team drinks in the evenings which gave me an opportunity to talk to all team members about their different experiences at EY.

  • 3. How much guidance/support did you receive during the insight?
  • I spend the week shadowing a Senior Manager in the Wealth and Asset Management team at EY so I was given a lot of guidance during the week. As I was only at the firm for a week, I was not given much responsibility however, I was always given the basic information/background needed to understand client meetings and any questions I had were answered clearly and coherently.

  • 4. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and information you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I am graduating from the University this summer and in the process of deciding which steps to take in choosing a career. As a biology student, this week has been invaluable in giving me some hands on business work experience and helped me realise that I would like to work for EY. During the week I was given my own laptop, and was allowed to attend a number of different meetings, with people in all levels within the business, from first year to partner. I have greatly improved my networking and team working skills.

    The Company

  • 5. How well structured was the insight?
  • I spend my week shadowing [This section of the comment has been removed by a member of the RateMyPlacement Team because it did not meet our site terms and conditions]. The timetable for the Leading Women Programme did not have a set structure, allowing you to get a real insight into the day-to-day role of a Senior Manager in Assurance at EY. [This section of the comment has been removed by a member of the RateMyPlacement Team because it did not meet our site terms and conditions] were both very helpful in answering any questions I had throughout the week.

  • 6. How was the general atmosphere during your insight?
  • I found the culture at EY to be very welcoming and inclusive. I have witnessed the willingness of colleagues to help each other and got a strong sense of the team working ethos of all individuals at the firm. I have had the opportunity to meet a range of people working at different levels within the business, from first years to partners, with everyone being friendly and happy to answer any questions I had.

  • 7. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?

  • 8. To what extent did the insight help you to understand what it would be like to have a full time role with the company or firm?
  • Since I was shadowing a Senior Manager in the team I got a sense of what a full time role at the firm would involve. During the week I spend three days at the EY office in Canary Wharf and two days at a client office near St Paul's. I was able to speak to different members of the team who shared their experiences of the EY graduate scheme.

  • 9. How much did the insight help you in understanding the company culture?
  • I spend the majority of my time at the firm in one audit team working together on a client project. Every member of the team displayed strong team working skills, helping and supporting each other with different tasks. I found the atmosphere at the office to be professional but relaxed and friendly.

    5/5

  • 10. How valuable was the content in helping you to decide on your future career path?
  • I did a Biological Sciences degree at University but was fairly certain that I did not want to pursue a career in science. This week was my first experience of working in an office environment and I really liked the atmosphere. Before the week I had little knowledge of assurance and learnt a lot about the audit work that EY do.

    Everything Else

  • 11. Were you paid or reimbursed adequately for this experience?
  • I was paid an hourly wage for my time at the firm.

  • 12. Were there opportunities for networking and meeting other employees of the company or firm?
  • 4/5

  • 13. How were the networking/ social event opportunities?
  • One day I was taken out for drinks after work which gave me a further opportunity to speak to members of the team and also meet some other people working in assurance. On the last day, I was taken out for lunch with the other interns on the programme which was a chance to talk about different interns experience during the week.

  • 14. Did you find out about activities that employees can get involved in outside of work?
  • 3/5

  • 15. Would you recommend this insight to a friend?
  • I would highly recommend this insight programme to a friend, however I think it would be really beneficial for the programme to be two weeks instead of one week long as much of the first and last day of the week was spent on inductions, setting up/returning IT equipment and reviewing the week
