The Role
The work was certainly tough, but I've gained a lot of technical and personal skills through this placement.
My colleagues relied on me occasionally, as did I with them.
My managers were always there to help, could not have asked for more.
Very busy, there were the occasional times where you were waiting on replies from customers, but there were always things to do.
We were given complete control of customer support for our product, we had people to go to if we needed help, but we had a lot of responsibility which was good in my opinion.
The job certainly developed my skills gained through my university course, however, they could have been more relevant.
The Company
It was a good quiet working environment, allowing you to chill out and get on with the work.
The EPMs managed everything well, there were clear processes and everything was explained clearly. Overall the setting up of the placement was very professionally done.
There was a bit of training on the first couple of days in the placement, but the job is mostly about learning as you go, I think our manager wanted us to learn for ourselves instead of being spoonfed, as many placements do.
There are plenty of different fields to go into after you finish the placement.
The Culture
There were team events organised every quarter, other than that we mostly did our own thing.
Cost of living was very expensive as we were based in outer London. Because of that, you would have to pay for public transport etc when socializing.
I didn't look into it.
IBM offer giveback opportunities, which usually consist of activities inside of work hours, bu occasionally they will be outside of them too.
