About You
I would thoroughly recommend taking part in the Vacation Scheme at Walker Morris! It provides a great insight to day-to-day life in the firm and the culture working there.
I was sat in the Planning department, everyone was friendly and helpful in trying to find tasks for me to do. I felt I was given some real research to do rather than just busy work.
For the week we are allocated a Supervisor and a Trainee to help us through, and although my Supervisor was away for part of the week on an Inquiry, I received regular emails checking in on me.
Even just a week working there has allowed for a greater insight into the business relationships that develop with clients than the whole three years of Law School. Going forward I will be looking to develop these skills throughout my LPC.
The Company
We were given a loose timetable at the beginning of the week in a booklet to hold onto. The way it was structured allowed for time to individually seek work and get to know members of the team, whilst also having allocated events to branch out further.
All Trainees that I have met have known one another outside work and seem to be more than just colleagues. This is extremely encouraging and I feel as though if I were able to work here the atmosphere allows for more than just a professional relationship between employees, a social life is encouraged.
I feel the week has been focussed on getting to know the firm and understanding I you think you'd fit in as an individual, the training side at this stage is more about understanding how the firm works and operates.
The scheme places you right in the middle of the action, undertaking several different tasks and attending meetings.
I feel that the culture at Walker Morris is evident from day one, they're an open firm without hierarchical issues of power. The Trainees can approach Partners at any point due to the one office location, and this defines the over all culture.
The week helped me determine that this is definitely the right career path for me.

Yes, the timetable scheduled several social events and a drinks evening.
Rather informal and friendly.
Yes, and we were even invited to attend some of their activities.
Without a doubt.
