About You
EY's Leading Women internship was absolutely excellent from start to finish! It was an amazing opportunity to meet and be mentored by employees at all level of the firms from those on the school leavers programme up to partner level. Every employee I met was super enthusiastic and welcoming. I learnt so much within such a short space of time and it truly was an insightful week.
The people I shadowed instantly made me feel a part of the team and the firm overall. They were all extremely welcoming and willing to take the time out to explain whatever it was that I didn't understand. I was able to work on real cases and look through documents that could directly influence future projects at EY.
Due to the welcoming nature of the team, I was able to ask them any questions I had freely and they were more than willing to explain complex concepts to me. They went out of their way to ensure I was understanding everything that was going on whilst being suitably challenged.
The skills I developed here will be vital to my final year of degree studies and following that, entering the world of work. I managed to network with several people within the firm and hope to keep in touch with them as I progress through my university studies and career.
The Company
I always had something to do and the induction sessions at the beginning of the week ensured that I had a clear idea about how to make the most of the insight and develop my skills. I was able to assist on several projects within my preferred service line and gained a breadth of knowledge whilst doing so.
The people I was working with made this insight exceptional. Their friendliness, welcoming nature and genuine desire to help you succeed and understand stuff made it amazing. I had the opportunity to network with several inspirational people through an evening event when EY hosted the launch of a new London network.
The firm developed my skills throughout the placement and there were plenty of opportunities to network with people and share experiences. Due to the short nature of the placement, there was no formalised training but plenty of induction activities and the opportunity to shadow a training programme for managers and senior managers.
It gave me a perfect insight into what EY would be like to work for and also, the types of opportunities working for EY may bring. I learnt how my skills could directly be used in this industry and specifically, within the service line I applied for. It helped me decide for certain that this is the line of work I would like to go into
All the employees I shadowed were exceptionally welcoming and inspirational enabling me to understand exactly what it takes to succeed in a company like EY and the type of career opportunities it offers. I learnt that EY is an inclusive place to work with increased flexibility and the ability to move around as and when desired.
It was extremely useful. By the end of the week, I was certain that TAS is the line of work I want to work in. The work and meetings I shadowed were dynamic and exciting to be a part of . I was able to also learn a lot from the positive experiences of existing employees.
Everything Else
There weren't too many opportunities to network with members of the overall firm or the other interns however, I met plenty of welcoming people within my chosen service line. I was also able to interact with partners and learn from their own experiences whilst understanding how they got to where they are.
Again, due to the short -term nature of the placement, there weren't too many social events with other interns. That being said, I managed to assist and participate in a networking event where inspirational people from across the industry gathered to share life experiences and views on events and progress made with regards to gender equality in the industry.
When talking to the employees, I learnt that they were part of several activities including football teams and badminton. Furthermore, the people I shadowed were part of various committees and school boards that were making a difference in their communities. They also highlighted the fact that overall, EY has a good work-life balance.
I would absolutely recommend this to a friend! I learnt a huge amount in such a short space of time and was able to interact with so many different people. By interacting with them, I learnt what it was that differentiates EY and what it takes to succeed and progress within the firm. Overall, it was a dynamic and fast-paced programme to be a part of.
