About You
I really enjoyed the insight as it allowed me to gain a deeper understanding of how EY operates and the opportunities available for me within EY such as grad schemes and summer internships. Although you get placed in one department for the week there are opportunities to explore other departments that you are interested in.
When you begin the insight you are assigned a partner (who you shadow) and a buddy. My buddy was great with answering any questions I had and explaining her career to date and how she ended up in the position she is in. I felt that everyone who I spoke to was very approachable and friendly and happy to answer any questions I had.
At the beginning of the week I had a goal setting session with my buddy and the partner to discuss what I wanted to achieve from the week. My buddy then scheduled in additional tasks/meetings for me to attend to help me to reach my goal which was really helpful.
From the insight week I became a lot more confident talking to a variety of different staff members within the business and the insight week also helped to confirm that I would be very interested in the EY graduate programme. I also had a mock interview with feedback which was very helpful.
The Company
On the first day of the insight I attended multiple inductions with other students who were taking part in the scheme. The rest of the scheme is tailored to what you want to get out of the week as well as what meetings your partner has planned that you are able to go along to.
Everyone who I spoke to was more than happy to share their experience at EY and also explain their roles to me to get a better understanding of the different functions and roles within each function. Everyone I spoke to offered to give their email address so I could contact them in the future. My buddy and partner were very friendly and approachable.
The insight scheme was well paid, and at the end of the scheme if the partner and your buddy are happy with your work then you have the opportunity to be fast tracked to the final interview for a summer placement scheme or the graduate scheme. I also had a careers counselling call which was extremely useful.
The insight gave me the opportunity to sit in the office and get a feel for what it would be like at EY, as well as speaking to a variety of different staff from graduate level to partner level. I also got assigned some basic tasks to complete during my time at EY.
The week allowed me to gain an insight of the company and the audit department and also outlined the different opportunities available to me after the scheme if i am successful. This has helped me to confirm that a career working for a global big 4 company such as EY is what I would like to do in the future if i had the chance to do so.
Everything Else
Every day I had the opportunity to meet different individuals from graduate level to partner level throughout the firm. One evening i got to attend a women in energy networking event for senior members of the team. This allowed me to speak more informally to women in the department which was really insightful.
There are a variety of activities that happen across each department and at the EY London office. These include social events such as wine tasting and sporting teams such as netball and a running club. There are also charity events to get involved with such as the three peaks challenge. I also got to attend a networking event.
