About You
I really enjoyed the experience provided to myself at Ernst and Young. The programme allowed me to develop my understanding of the various sectors the company function in, and build an understanding of my particular sector. I felt the level of trust given to me during the week was particularly excellent, and really allowed me to thrive and develop during the experience.
This was arguably the best thing about the week at Ernst and Young. Everybody around the office made me feel very comfortable, and went above the required threshold to ensure I was properly explained tasks and situations, no matter how busy they may have been. It is very easy for firms to state that they are open, inclusive and caring, but this was something which I really felt during my time at EY.
Both the mentors and the buddy I was given to support me during my experience have been extremely helpful. No question appeared too miniscule for them, and I would like to thank them for just how much help they provided along the whole experience. I think it was the combination of their guidance and support which really helped me to excel and develop during the programme, and I hope to encounter them again in the future.
I would be very shocked if the skills I learnt and developed at Ernst and Young were not relevant in my professional career in the future. The experience gained here has been invaluable, and my understanding of the professional world has been significantly enhanced since my arrival. The manner in which those around me have acted in a professional environment is something I would like to embed into my skillset.
The Company
I felt the programme as a whole carried a structure and level of organisation which I had not felt at many of my past experiences. Other experiences have seen a lot of empty time given to interns, with a significant amount of waiting around. However, I feel the time allocation during this week has been excellent - I have always felt there was something on in the day, and the spare time I had was used to run through things I had learnt during the programme. It was great.
The atmosphere was really positive. Linking into what I mentioned prior, the work environment was very inclusive and at no point was I made to feel out of my depth/unwanted. It was a place which epitomised the values it stated it had - an overall cooperative, friendly and enjoyable work environment.
I was very impressed with how much time and effort each individual I came across gave me. These people clearly had a lot of work at the time, but did not allow themselves to isolate me at any point. I think the time they gave me was excellent, and I really am thankful for this.
I think the manner in which the programme unfolded was excellent in giving insight into this, and I really feel as if the varying locations and tasks on a day to day basis highlight exactly how diverse EY is as a firm. It was excellent to meet such a wide array of individuals from all over the world during this, and highlighting just how dynamic work at EY can be.
It helped me to gauge exactly how individuals act and approach various situations and tasks. There was a clear focus on maintaining flexibility and quality of life whilst being at work, which was something I was particularly impressed by. I think it is very easy for a firm to state they hold this characteristics, but to actually show them on a day to day basis was particularly impressive.
I think the exposure to my field was excellent, and I felt as if I was given the opportunity to understand more about the varying departments and work that EY does on a daily basis. I think it will be very helpful when deciding which career to go into in the near future.
Everything Else
I was provided payment and given lunch on several of the days I worked at Ernst and Young. They were very helpful in covering the expenses experienced on a day to day basis, and this is something I was very grateful for. It was more than adequately paid, and handled very efficiently.
Yes, the various tasks I was given meant I was able to not only meet new clients and colleagues, but actually spend time to get to know them and understand what they specialised in, and what their backgrounds were. Alongside this, it was great to hear about just how varying their individual career paths were.
They were very good, and I would like to hope that the contacts I have made at EY keep to develop in the future. The individuals were all very friendly and I was fortunate to be given such a fantastic chance to network and meet new individuals throughout my time.
Yes, I was particularly excited to hear about the various networks Ernst and Young operated within. There is a clear emphasis on diversity and the ability to begin new projects and tasks outside of working life, whilst also ensuring employees are able to maintain their own goals and desires outside of work.
I would definitely recommend this experience. EY provide an excellent example of a firm who work hard, yet maintain an excellent environment at the same time, producing fantastic results. I have been very fortunate to have experienced this first hand, and I want to ensure that others around me are aware of this insight.
