The Role
Overall I have really enjoyed the year. There have been times I was sat around with not much to do but this was rare. The majority of the time I was working on real projects that were having an impact on the factory processes. Also really enjoyed feeling part of the a team and feeling valued.
Yes I really felt I was valued. People would give me responsibilities on tasks that were effecting their work. Sometimes I did get given smaller tasks though that were just jobs other people didn't want to do. However, this was not a frequent occurrence. Overall, I felt that I was an equal member of the team.
I was given great support from my manager. We had regular one to one meetings on a weekly basis where we would be able to discuss my progress. He was also, always happy to stop his work to help me when I needed it. Also, gave me support outside of my work by regularly checking how I was settling to the new area.
This varied throughout the year. At the start of the year I was often light on work would end up being left at my desk doing nothing. However, as the year progress and I gained trust with my work colleges the work load did start to increase and after the first few months I did end up with enough work to fill the day.
Throughout the year I was given plenty of responsibility. The majority of the projects I worked on I was the project lead not just supporting someone else. I was trusted to work on confidential projects as well as be the main point of contact in other projects with external companies.
At Eaton they run a training program in line with the internship. I would attend a session with all the other interns in the country every couple of months to receive training on a variety of topics, such as time management, communication, and presentation skills. While working during the year I was able to develop these skills and will now be able to use them when completing my university projects next year. They will also be extremely useful when I move into a full time job after university.
The Company
The atmosphere in the office was really good. Everyone was always really friendly and helpful if ever I needed help. I it was also really nice the way everyone would be serious when necessary and complete their jobs professionally, however, will always be happy to have a bit of a laugh every no and then.
Overall the placement was well organised. The training program organised by Eaton synced very well with my development throughout the year. The start of the year was well organised with my manager gradually building up my workload and allowing me learn all the processes in the factory. However, during my year my manager left and I felt I was not managed brilliantly in the following couple of months as I was left for a bit with no manager and no work.
I say they did invest in me a lot by arranging training days for me to attend throughout the year helping me to develop some of my skills such of communication, time management, and presentation skills. They also provided me the opportunity to present my achievements throughout the year to the graduate scheme manager.

For the company is an appealing place to work as it has a very good atmosphere and has good values. However, for me personally I think I would like to go into a slightly different line of work.
The Culture
Yes there was. Before the internship started all 4 of us interns starting at my site were put into contact so we could get to know each other and would have a few people we would all know on our first day. Once I started the social scene was good as I was often invited to events outside of work by my colleges.
The area I lived was quite a run down area, which meant that it was fairly cheap to live in, but did however mean to socialise I had to travel a bit to close by cities.
In my work area it was not great as it was located in a small town. However, it was possible to travel to close by cities were the nightlife was a lot better.
Yes there were a number of leisure centres close by to work which I could join.
