About You
I thoroughly enjoyed the week at Walker Morris. The people are so friendly and the work was really interesting.
The firm takes the time to make you feel like they're interested in you and what you want to do, and tried to tailor your experience that way. Also, the sort of work you're given is important and interesting rather than "work experience" non-task tasks (for want of a better phrase).
Masses of support. There were a thousand opportunities to ask questions and I really felt that they genuinely meant it when they said "no question is too silly" - which I valued as a non-law student who sometimes had to ask stupid questions.
The skills I have developed will be invaluable. I have been on a real learning curve this week - from basic law definitions and how to present work, to how to negotiate, how to draft a letter and how to perform legal research, the skills I've used will definitely help me when I come to doing the GDL.
The Company
Really well structured, with the assessments spread out and the time for socialising in the right place.
Friendly, generous, supportive, genuinely interested in you as a person.
The vacation scheme was obviously interested in getting the best out of you and allowed you to learn so many new skills.
They treated me like a trainee, giving me real work to do and tasks that actually contributed to cases and to the firm. They gave me really great feedback on how to improve and what I'd done well on every task which made me feel like I actually worked there and was getting feedback from a full time supervisor.
Massively, because a large amount of time is spent with the trainees who are really friendly, so it becomes obvious that the culture at the firm is welcoming and inclusive.
Talking to the trainees about paralegalling has made me decide to go down that route before the GDL, so very valuable.
Everything Else
Adequate.
Multiple opportunities for networking throughout the week, including a lunch on Monday , a social on Wednesday, a Q&A on Thursday and an open door policy throughout the week.
Fun!
Yes! So so many activities you couldn't even begin to list them all here!
Absolutely 100% without question.
