The Role
I am really glad I chose to complete my placement with IBM as they had the support needed and so many opportunities to really make the most of the year.
I was working with a group of students so we were all able to help and support each other whenever possible.
My managers were always constantly there for guidance and support. All suitable procedures were in place for this.
For the majority of the year I was constantly busy and if there was a quiet day, there was always something extra to do such as applying for givebacks. Sometimes however I found myself struggling with the workload
A lot of client faced responsibility which was good as I have gained so much experience from this.
I developed a wide range of skills, mainly on managing workload and coping with real responsibility, which will 100% help me in future.
The Company
There was a very good balance. We made sure that we took the responsibility seriously while still being able to have a laugh.
Very organised. Everything was in place for anything we needed.
There were many opportunities given to use to develop personally such as optional training courses and shadowing
Sports and Social Club
Company Parties/Events
Working from home
There are so many different roles within the company and all doors are kept open so very appealing.
The Culture
As I was based slightly outside of London with only a small number of placement students, there was not a very good social scene
London-based, very expensive in comparison to University in Liverpool
It was only a short trip in to London where nightlife is great. There is something for everyone
IBM give students the opportunity to volunteer in events outside of the day to day role.
