The Role
Despite difficult and challenging moment during my year with IBM, it was over enjoyable. I discovered a passion and got a lot out of my year
Overall, I felt like a valued member of the team. However, there were one or two occasions where I felt patronised and my input was ignored because I was an intern.
IBM has a good structure to ensure you develop over your year with them and a great feedback tool to ensure you get constructive feedback.
I had a good workload every day and if I needed more work or support with my current workload I could get it.
I felt I could have been given more responsibility earlier. However, by the end of my placement, I had a good amount.
IBM has a great online resource where you can complete a lot of self-learning. However, I feel some support and guidance on what to train in and how to get qualifications could have been provided.
The Company
I was working on a client site which meant I don't feel like I was working in a proper IBM office with a similar atmosphere. However, the atmosphere was like a friendly medium sized business where you could meet most people on the site and know where everyone sits.
I was very well supported and was always confident about what was going on in my placement. However, I feel task manager/ projects where there hasn't been an intern there before could do with more support to ensure the intern gets a full experience out of their placement.
In formal training none, however, this is because they weren't readily advertised for the areas I wanted to develop more in. However, you can achieve a great amount of self-learning and I'm confident there are ways that you can get training.
Sports and Social Club
Company Parties/Events
Very appealing. IBM is a good company to work for and have a good career with.
The Culture
There was a good social scene amount students across the country.
It was reasonable, however, you had to live close if you didn't have a car
There were some good bars and clubs in the area as it had a good student population
There are loads of opportunities to do stuff outside of my role with IBM
