The Role
I really enjoyed my time at IBM. What made my experience special was my amazing team, who made me feel welcome from the very first day. Additionally the opportunity to learn and also to get in several projects and events outside my everyday tasks.
I felt very valued, especially through the feedback I received and my team's confidence in my ability to manage my tasks and produce results. Also, their willingness to get to know me made it feel like a second family to me.
My managers were always willing to help and assist me in any way I needed. They especially made sure that I understand that there were ready to help which gave me the confidence to always ask questions. However, they also gave me the freedom to manage my tasks and work towards my expected results.
This varied on a daily basis. However, I always had something to do and I was never bored.
I was actually given a lot of responsibility during my placement. This made me feel valued as my tasks contributed to the growth and success of the account.
I believe that the skills I have picked up during my placements will definitely impact my approach to life beyond my studies. For example, the communication and presentation skills I have picked up will be useful in my final year studies and when I return to the workplace.
The Company
The general atmosphere was well-balanced as everyone was friendly.
I believe the firm invests in interns quite a lot, there were several training events held throughout the year aimed towards skills. There were also numerous learning platforms we could use to develop our skills.
Company Parties/Events
The future employment prospects are quite good for this company. However, as an international student, I am ineligible to apply for a graduate job. However, I would advise that this should not be a disincentive to not apply for a placement.
The Culture
Yes, there was a very good social scene. We tried to get together as much as possible often after to work. To either go tobogganing, bowling attending pub quizzes and meals.
The cost of living was quite high in Leamington Spa and this was attributed to the price of rent also taking the bus was quite expensive every month. The cost of socializing was quite average and not too expensive.
There were so many opportunities, however, the only problem was that the vast majority of these were targeted towards the London south bank area, meaning that interns at other locations sometimes miss out.
