The Role
I have really enjoyed working for Siemens for the past 11 months as an intern. The opportunity for this experience has been very different to an educational life and has been exciting with new experiences daily. Reason it is not 10 is because the management for intern scheme could be improved, especially in the first month of joining the business.
My colleagues have extensively valued me in my opinion. I was given responsible and challenging tasks which I feel I was trusted.
My manager has given me great support for working on my project and career development.
I have been fairly busy with 2 daily projects I work on. In addition of the 2 projects, I have had ad hoc work assisting other projects.
I feel I have had great responsibility during my placement such as justifying for new machinery worth £100,000.
The skills I have developed will become very useful for my final year of degree. I have learnt and gained many communication, teamwork and management skills through Siemens, and I would like to take these skills back to university.
The Company
It is very friendly and comfortable to work in. It does sometimes lack in concentration with many social talking but it is nice to be a part of.
The scheme organized can be improved in many areas. The support during the first week of placement must be improved. I was barely able to start work due to not having a laptop for few days.
The company has invested in many training and development. These were mainly by training courses we were allocated to and material to study in our own time.
Flexi Time
Above 25 days holiday
I would definitely like to work for Siemens again but not in the current organization. My current organization in Power and Gas is a diminishing market and I believe will struggle in the future.
The Culture
I have had great involvement with other intern students such as drinking after work and participating in volunteering events together.
It was a very nice area to live in and living cost was average.
Although I have not been out very often, nightlife was alright with many bars and clubs due to the area filled with students.
Many opportunities were offered by Siemens but I regret that I have not utilized them.
