The Role
Throughout my time at IBM I've gained experiences and learned an amount I did not think possible in such a short amount of time. I have thoroughly enjoyed my 12 months and due to this would recommend IBM to anyone looking for a placement. Following on from my final year at University, I hope to return as a graduate.
From day one I have been given responsibility within my team, allowing me to feel a valuable member. This responsibility has grown throughout the year, therefore I have been able to add increasing value which has been recognised via the ACE tool. Similarly, interns are offered many opportunities to take on responsibilities outside of their day to day roles.
My position unfortunately suffered due to structural changes within my business area, meaning I experienced 5 different managers in my first few months at IBM. Despite this, under my current manager I found my feet and have felt continuous support. Similarly, the EPM system has allowed me to experience continuity and feel I always have somewhere to turn for guidance.
The nature of my role resulted in ebbs and flow in regard to work load. There were periods thoughout the year in which I was extremely busy yet other times I was asking for extra work. However, this scenario resulted in me being involved in many aspects of the company aside from my role which I thoroughly enjoyed and has allowed me to develop in a variety of ways.
From the start I was given a large amount of responsibility, which has increased accordingly throughout the year. I have dealt with budget, clients and legal documents without a shadow of a doubt that I would be able to cope. The amount of responsibility given to me has allowed me to feel a valued member of my team and the business.
IBM excels in the magnitude of learning opportunities available to employees. I have both built upon existing skills and gained new ones via education sessions, online courses and colleges. I hope to be able to competently apply these skills to my studies next year, and to all future opportunities.
The Company
The atmosphere in South Bank is always lively and positive. In my particular case the majority of my team work elsewhere therefore I was often working independently within South Bank, however I have built relationships within my wider business unit who are based in the office and the other interns.
As previously mentioned, the structural changes within my business area impacted the organisation of my role initially. During this time I was particularly thankful for my EPM who was able to advise me in how best to deal with this situation. Throughout the year Foundation have been of utmost importance and I'm very grateful for all the support I have received.
There are a multitude of ways in which IBM offers its employees ways to increase their skills sets. Similarly, everyone within the business is willing to help you where they can and often sit down with you to discuss your own goals and how best you can achieve them.

Working from home
Having spent my year within Resiliency, I have chosen to apply back to the Security Graduate scheme. This appeals to me due to the similarities between the two areas of the business and I believe the skills I have gained this year will be beneficial in a Security graduate role.
The Culture
Due to the volume of interns at South Bank there is a strong community of interns. Similarly, the location of the office is well suited for social occasions.
