The Role
My role at Hays was challenging at first, a fast paced sales environment can be challenging to get used to at first. But once I was given on desk training and training by Senior Managers and Directors the role became much more manageable.
The people at Hays really do make it. They always make the effort to make you feels valued and encourage you to work hard and go the extra mile.
Extensive Support given by management and supervisors, whether it be during the training stages and getting to know the role and the company to progression later down the line and more complex problems, there is always someone there to help resolve the issue.
Recruitment is of course a busy environment, with peaks and troughs of activity depending on the market. This can often lead to very busy periods, which can actually be quiet enjoyable and periods where activity level is not quite as high.
I was given significant responsibility during my placement, managing candidates/clients/jobs. I believe I was given far more responsibility than most of my peers when it came to my placement, which made me feel more valued as an Intern. My role essentially matched that of a full time consultant.
I believe that the skills I have developed on my placement will be skills I will take back to me at university and further into later life. I have progressed significantly with my time management skills and problem solving, but perhaps most importantly, due to the company culture my confidence has grown significantly as an individual.
The Company
Atmosphere in the office, as it is a sales environment is of course a very busy meritocratic environment where hard work is significantly rewarded. With hard work being rewarded by often generous incentives.
The work placement was very well organised. My role was very clearly laid out and so was my potential development at the Hays if I decide to return to the role.
Hays invest quite a lot in you as an individual, giving training from Directors, Senior Managers and Managers. A good level of personal training is also given by the internal recruitment team laying out specific training days and activities for all on work placement schemes.
Financial Bonus
Future employment prospects from within the organisation are positive. I have enjoyed working with them and the feedback I have received has been positive meaning this has been reciprocated and they have expressed that they are hoping for me to return to the role.
The Culture
There was a good Social Scene to begin with other placement students at the beginning but as the placement progressed I became more involved with my team and their social activities. This is one of the most encouraging aspects of the role and would definitely encourage me to return.
The cost of living in the area in which I worked and Socialised way very high. Rent and food was costly and after work for socialising drinks etc, prices were very high. This is to be expected living/working in London.
Working and living in London the Nightlife opportunity was fantastic, however being able to take full advantage of this as a placement student seemed impossible. Perhaps returning on a full time basis this would become more fruitful.
There was quite a lot of opportunity to get involved in opportunities outside of work, such as charity support with tough mudder challenges, Christmas carolling, and a summer 'sports day' which was entertaining.'
