About You
I thoroughly enjoyed my placement as it gave me an insight into different potential careers that I could undertake when I eventually finish my degree. Everyone who I met were incredibly friendly and very helpful with any questions I had, and made me settle and feel part of the team.
I felt very valued, as further the week went on the more responsibility I was given. Many of the tasks I carried out were what a graduate would do and the work would be given to the rest of the team to conduct further analysis. The more trust I gained, the more responsibility I received.
Throughout my placement, the graduate who I was shadowing give me plenty of support and guidance in any work I was given. Any questions I had were answered by the graduate or a more senior member of staff. At the end of the week, I had a meeting in which I was given advise on how to pursue a career within the industry.
Much of the information and skills I gained related directly to my degree, for example I looked at Valuation reports and how valuations were conducted and this is something I will be doing in my degree. Also, I was shown skills that would be used and how to use different software's.
The Company
Within the week I had scheduled telephone meetings whereby I would listen to a lecture on a certain subject to do with the company and the industry, providing me with useful information. However, due to it being a relatively quiet week for the office, I found myself doing tedious tasks.
The office I was at everyone who I met was very friendly and helpful. There is a general consensus of work hard play hard within the office, this creates a very hardworking environment but a relaxed approach at the same time. One thing that stood out for me was how everyone helped each other.
The lectures I had gave me information into the different departments within the company and the different specialities you can do when you graduate. There is a real emphasis on getting RICS qualified and Savills fully support you through this process, enabling you to see what you are able to become Chartered in.
Everything Else
Within the week I went out for drinks in the afternoon with the team or the whole office and this gave me an opportunity to talk to different people in a more relaxed environment. The company really encourage you to network and gain contacts with other people as this is part of the industry.
There are many activities that are carries out within the office and outside working hours. These may be attending social events and evening meals with other graduates in the local area, so you can build up your contacts. Also, they encourage taking part in sporting events and charitable events, creating a real sense of togetherness.
Anyone looking for a career in the Real Estate industry must apply for this week's placement as it does give you a real insight into what its all about. The company itself is one of the best within the industry and you can see why when you experience first hand how it operates.
