    About You

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
  • I enjoyed the insight very much. It was very interactive, the environment was hospitable and it was nice to meet other like-minded students with the same ambitions and goals as me. The firm’s representatives were really helpful in terms of indulging us into the deep sectors of the firm and answering any of our questions.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued during your time at the company or firm?
  • I felt very valued. My opinions were taken into consideration all the time, I was listened to by my group. The staff always allowed us to ask questions at any given time. I also felt like my personality and interests were valued when discussing and getting to know others. The firm's values are very much what I look for in a firm.

  • 3. How much guidance/support did you receive during the insight?
  • I received a lot of guidance and support. Coming into the insight day, I had a lot of queries and unanswered problems about Finance and working at the big four. But the representatives ensured everyone asked questions and the in-depth powerpoint presentation answered most of my queries. Also, the firm’s graduates were very helpful as they have first-hand experience too.

  • 4. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and information you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • Well, I'm at the end of my secondary school career. However, the insight day has given me a broad and mature perspective of Business and Finance. I am now more knowledgeable and aware of the opportunities that are before me. The culture and work ethic in the firm has inspired me to work hard in order to secure a job at this firm.

    The Company

  • 5. How well structured was the insight?
  • The insight was very well structured. It consisted of a full powerpoint presentation of the different departments and jobs available at this firm and the different sectors of business in general. There was also many interactive games and puzzles that we solved in groups which were really fun. Overall, the day ran pretty smooth, so I got the most of the day.

  • 6. How was the general atmosphere during your insight?
  • The atmosphere was really working inspiring and hospitable, everyone including the students was friendly and cooperative. The games also ensured that it was fun and interactive. Also, the firm’s employees encouraged us to ask any questions as a group, which I thought was really good as it diffuses the pressure of asking in front of the whole cohort.

  • 7. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • The company offered us notepads and pens to take notes as the day went on. Also, the firm brought in their busy employees to give us time out of their day in order to help us and network with us, which I thought was really helpful. We also learnt something from every activity.

    5/5

  • 8. To what extent did the insight help you to understand what it would be like to have a full time role with the company or firm?
  • We learnt a lot of information about working at the big 4: Your working week will really depend on your availability and your company's needs, so you'll have to negotiate on the number of hours or days of the week you are needed. Also, You've got plenty of opportunities to work up the career ladder into more senior positions.

    5/5

  • 9. How much did the insight help you in understanding the company culture?
  • The company culture is really what makes this firm stand out from the other firms. Innovation is everywhere in this firm. Here, you’ll find fantastic opportunities to learn and develop each and every day. From interactions with clients and colleagues to mentoring, coaching, community investment and professional education, they offer a wide range of formal and informal resources to help you shape your career and achieve your ambitions.

  • 10. How valuable was the content in helping you to decide on your future career path?
  • The day really helped me get a broad understanding of business and revealed jobs that I did not know existed in the firm. I would say, If you are a detail-oriented, self-professed math geek who loves crunching numbers and reporting accurate financial information, consider focusing your job search on the accounting sphere. If you like the idea of managing money, calculating risk and have great verbal and communication skills, a career in finance might be the best fit for you.

    Everything Else

  • 11. Were you paid or reimbursed adequately for this experience?
  • The firm reimbursed all my travel expenses to and from the firm. They are able to reimburse anyone up to £50 which encourages people to join days such as this. Building was really resourceful in terms of catering for food requirements and other potential issues you may have, which is just going the extra mile.

  • 12. Were there opportunities for networking and meeting other employees of the company or firm?
  • The opportunities to network with current employees were second to none here. Through networking, you can discover new opportunities, build your customer base and find new suppliers and staff. You may also find investors and business partners. Networking is particularly important if you're running a home business because it can connect you with peers and help you overcome potential issues associated with being isolated.

  • 13. How were the networking/ social event opportunities?
  • I found the networking my favourite part of the day because Your business networks can help you in a wide range of ways. Through your networks, you can raise your profile, share ideas, and find out about innovations that may stimulate your business. Networking made me feel more confident and encouraged me to be open in terms of asking questions.

    5/5

  • 14. Did you find out about activities that employees can get involved in outside of work?
  • The biggest difference between the firms is work/life balance. At this firm, people come first and employees’ lives outside of work are of the utmost importance. At the Big Four, they try to maintain this balance, but due to the nature of the clients and amount of work, it’s difficult to adhere to and most people end up working nonstop.

    5/5

  • 15. Would you recommend this insight to a friend?
  • Yes, i would recommend the insight to a friend, I have no regrets about coming on the day, the people there are really nice, you learn and network a lot. You can even gain further opportunities such as the career shaper programme in year 12 of A level, which is a plus!
