About You
I really enjoyed the insight programme even more than I thought I would. The challenges we undertook let us come up with innovative ideas in a good environment. It was really exciting to see the work that the graduates did firsthand, and sit with them through client calls and see what their day consisted of.
It was a really inclusive and and friendly environment. There were many volunteers who had taken the time out of their day to be there to support us and allow us to ask questions, so I felt that I was really valued, it was important to everyone that we were able to ask any questions we wanted.
We were supported through the entire process. [This section of the comment has been removed by a member of the RateMyPlacement Team because it did not meet our site terms and conditions] were brilliant in guiding us through what the day would look like at the start of each day, and ensuring that everyone was able to understand and undertake the tasks that were set, and that no one was confused or had any unanswered questions. Hearing the experiences of the graduates and being able to ask them questions was excellent too.
Through the tasks that we did, such as the business challenge, I felt that it helped me to be able to build on my skills to think innovatively and be creative with my ideas. It also helped me practise my presenting skills and we also had a skills session where we were able to learn how to make good first impressions, which I found really useful.
The Company
We were presented with an itinerary at the start of each day, and every section of the day flowed. The day was also broken up well with breaks and lunch and also talks that graduates and other employees came to give us. Everything was timed very well too, so we knew what we would be doing and when.
It was such a friendly environment and everyone got on very well. It also didn't feel as though any of the graduates or other employees were any different to us - they were all so nice and welcoming. This really helped during the tasks, as it helped us work better together, and also made us feel comfortable asking any questions we had.
KPMG invested a lot of time from a lot of different people to ensure that we got the best experience possible - I can't really fault anything. I came away from the programme with a lot more skills and experiences than I had going in, even if it was only 3 days.
Before arriving for the programme, I had a very different idea to what life would be like at the firm than what it really was. The opportunity to work shadow was my favourite part of the programme, as it let me understand better how everything worked and what an average day at KPMG looks like.
It was very obvious from the start what the firm was like, it was very people-centred. Everyone was so willing to help each other and everyone was so friendly and at ease with each other. From hearing the experiences of the graduates it helped me understand how flexible KPMG is and how it's able to accommodate everyones different needs.
Before going on the programme, I knew that I wanted to pursue a career in technology. However, I was not aware of all the different types of careers there are in technology and now I have a good idea on the areas that I am most interested in. It's also made me really want to pursue a career even more at KPMG specifically.
Everything Else
There were many opportunities to meet graduates throughout all 3 days and ask them questions and hear their personal experiences with the firm. There was also a networking session on the third day in which we were able to have a final chat with many employees over drinks and ask any final questions.
The opportunities were extensive and really helpful - they are what made the insight programme very insightful. Because of the great and very friendly environment it was really easy to talk to everyone and ask about their roles within the company and hear how they ended up working at KPMG.
We were able to hear about the different societies within the firm and the vast amounts of work that they do, and the opportunities that they provided employees. We were also able to talk to employees and found that they all went out together to dinners, bars etc.
I would and I have!
