About You
Very insightful placement scheme! It was great that we were given a lot of work that was actually used in transactions and distributed to clients. Also, because we did not know much about the kinds of work that we were doing, it was amazing that people at the firm actually cared about your learning and development in the short two weeks we had at the firm. Overall, it was the greatest placement scheme that I have had the opportunity to be on thus far in my career!
I felt very valued at the firm; all the employees really cared about you and were concerned about your well-being though we were only here for two weeks. They appreciated our time and effort, and in turn I think it allowed us to feel very appreciated and valued during our time at the firm.
Great support from everyone around you! They took time to explain things so that we could understand it easily, and asking many questions were encouraged, and I felt that the support given by people at the firm were fantastic!
I think that the skills I developed during my time here was invaluable. Things from social networking, to drafting letters, to thinking creatively under the guidance from our supervisors allowed me to develop many skills from this placement scheme! Though it was very different work from university, core skills such as communication and analysis I think are skills that can be transferred into assisting me in completing my degree and beyond.
The Company
Very well structured: I was surprised to how packed and insightful the scheme was overall. Alongside the many different talks given my the firm on the works and visions of the company, there were a lot of social events arranged by the firm too. Everything was very well structured in a sense that there was never a time where I had to wonder on what to do next!
Generally, the atmosphere was very nice. Everyone you were able to talk to were very nice and warm towards you, and I think that reflected in me feeling very comfortable from the first day on this tough scheme. Of course, there were times where many of the Partners and Associates were so busy, and we did have quiet hours a lot. Nonetheless, the general atmosphere was very nice and a lot of fun to be in!
Personally, I think that the firm invested a lot into my personal training and development. From getting us stuck into work helping out other employees, to learning more about the kinds of work that we can take part in, and making sure that we understood each and every task was very nice, and I appreciated their efforts a lot.
The placement scheme had lots of insights into what it was like working as a trainee and as an associate at the firm, which gave me a full and significant understanding of what the roles entailed. From talks by trainees, associates and partners, to sessions on learning and development at the firm, to the opportunities available with a full time role with the firm, it significantly improved my understanding of what it would be like to have a full time role with the firm.
Again, many presentations, talks and networking sessions were all extremely helpful in my understanding the company culture at the firm. Also, the opportunity to shadow work and take part in works with full time employees really set the tone to what the culture was like at the firm. The insight provided so much, and was extremely helpful in helping me understanding the company culture which I appreciate greatly.
Very valuable; talks given everyday about a different sector that the firm was operating in, to taking part in actual works were all incredibly valuable in helping me to decide on my future career, as it outlined the realities of working in such an environment as a full time job.
Everything Else
I think I was paid a bit too much for the experience that I had! If I could I would do the placement scheme all over again without and remuneration, because I was able to get so much out of it. In this sense, I think we were paid very well for the exciting opportunity I was able to get out of this placement scheme.
There were plenty of opportunities for networking and meeting other employees of the firm. The firm hosted many social events, where we could meet other employees that we have not been able to come across. Although the senior members of the firm looked very busy, I think a session in networking with them would have been a great experience, but all in all the firm provided so many opportunities for networking.
Very well done. It was very informal, and I think that it was great that we could talk to the employees at the firm at a very personal level, and even make some friends in the process which I appreciate greatly! They were perfect for students like myself to get to know professionals in this industry and at the firm.
Yes! There were very informative sessions about the firm in getting involved outside of work, in their Corporate Social Responsibility and values, as well as various company-wide events which were really nice to know about, being a massive sports fan myself! But also, many charitable works, such as pro bono and partnerships with charities set out loads of opportunities employees could get involved with outside of work.
Absolutely. The placement scheme was an amazing experience for me to get to know a lot of people and the culture and works of the firm. Not only this, everyone was very caring and were genuinely interested in your wellbeing, which I was very grateful for. So I would definitely recommend this insight to a friend who is looking to apply to a career in law.
