The Role
I enjoyed the placement thoroughly. From day 1 interns are given responsibilities that very much highlight the work that is done within a particular line of service in the firm.
While the level of familiarity between colleagues varied, the one common thread was that all colleagues were friendly and approachable. This is especially so when I had a question regarding the work assigned. No question was too small or bothersome.
The supervisor was always there to ensure that I did not run into any problems. This ranged from a constant presence or dropping in throughout the day at my workspace (due to client engagements).
I was kept busy, especially if tasks were completed beforehand. The work was within my scope and if I had questions they were willing to run it through with me. I was never overwhelmed with work or unrealistic deadlines.
Responsibility was within my scope. I never was given a piece of work that was well beyond my experience or knowledge.
I ultimately fortified the skills that I have been fostering; this included time management, teamwork, eye for detail etc.
The Company
Supervisor and colleagues kept it interesting with friendly chats throughout the day while still completing tasks.
There were a few rescheduling of client engagements, due to certain engagements being postponed well after placement period. But it was always within notifiable period and there were no issues.
The firm invested a great deal in its interns, myself included. This included being treated as a typical associate which included frequent meetings with a People Manager to identify goals to be achieved during the placement.
Acquired an employment contract with the organisation. From the work placement it is seen how the firm invests in its employees with a clear career trajectory
The Culture
Gained friendships with fellow interns that will continue well beyond the placement.
Placement was in London, and while expensive was well worth it.
London nightlife is unbeatable and is worth checking out.
There were a few opportunities such as social group events. But this has to be brought by the interns to colleagues and is not part of the placement.
