About You
I enjoyed it much more than I expected I would. I was very nervous coming in on my first day, but the firm did a great job at helping me settle in. In particular, my buddies and supervisors were really accommodating and welcoming. I learnt so much and I had a great time with not only the other students, but also the people at the firm.
I was given a lot of substantially meaningful work, and throughout every piece of work that I did, not only did I feel comfortable asking for help, my supervisors were very supportive and kind. Not only that, they took the time to give good quality feedback. Even the people I hadn't met before were very friendly and came to say hi.
Much more than I could ask for! My buddies and supervisors were very caring and made sure I was always busy with work, helping me to get the most out of the scheme. They provided me with a lot of support and good feedback after each piece of work. As well as this, it was nice to have graduate recruitment always there and ready to help with any questions that I had.
I definitely think it will be a great help in my future career in law. The amount I learnt in these short two weeks were probably almost as valuable as a year's worth of studying at university. I was able to get a much more practical and real insight into what it's actually like at a law firm, rather than simply reading about it on a website.
The Company
I quite liked how the assessment centre was on the Wednesday of the last week. It allowed me to really relax and focus on enjoying work on the Thursday and Friday, having finished the somewhat more stressful part of the scheme. Everything was well organised, from the multiple talks to the firm socials.
The firm in general was very warm and friendly. Even during my assessment centre, I felt very accommodated and cared for. Everyone seemed open and willing to talk. The work atmosphere seemed very healthy too. It definitely seemed that the firm wanted to help us to show our best by creating the best possible environment for us to work in.
I think the best thing about this scheme was the opportunity to get to know the people as well as the general culture and atmosphere. It's often difficult to distinguish law firms by just reading about their culture on their graduate websites, and so it was nice to be able to talk to people and really become part of the culture.
Greatly. In terms of work, I could tell how great and supportive people are just by spending two weeks here. On top of the work, opportunities to just talk to people and attend social events and lunches really helped me see what the firm is actually like, and how the people are.
I absolutely loved my time here, much more than I thought I would! I'm actually very disappointed to be leaving, and I am very hopeful that I will be coming back in the future. Having this direct exposure to not only the type of work I'll be doing but also to the firm's culture has really affirmed my interests in a career in law.
Everything Else
Yes. A lot of the people I spoke to at the firm seemed to take part in a lot of sports and firm-organised socials. A few examples of these are the tag-rugby team, the netball team, the trainee dinners, department dinners, and many more. It definitely seemed to help everyone get closer to each other.
100%. It was one of the most helpful experiences I have had in my pursuit of law as a career. Not only has it provided a great insight, I also had a really good time. I thoroughly enjoyed my time at the firm and even if I don't get in, I'd still be thankful to have had such a great experience.
