The Role
I really enjoyed my placement year at Lloyds. I was given opportunities to perform major pieces of analysis, present to stakeholders and learn how to code using SAS. This gave me a wider skillset and also helped me feel more confident that I could succeed in a future role at a bank. Also work life balance was very good.
Always made me feel welcome. We went on many work socials from day one and it will be sad to leave. They instantly made me feel part of the time and settling into the team became a far easier process. I wish them all the best for the future and thank them for helping me throughout the placement.
Management was really good at Lloyds. Whenever I required help on a task, they helped me and told me how to perform the task at a more advanced level. This raised my confidence and allowed me to achieve good results. My senior manager also spared time to speak to me which I really appreciated.
Some days were busier than others, however at times there was little for me to do and I was sometimes asking for work which also took a while to get given. The work I was given was challenging but there were a few times where I had little work to do.
I was given the chance to work on my own projects. This gave me the opportunity to work independently and allowed me further development throughout my placement year. As the year went on, I achieved more confidence in my ability and the team trusted my analysis more and more. In turn, they gave me more responsibility.
The Company
I felt as if the work placement wasn't the most organised it could have been. Very few placement students had much of an idea about exactly what the work we would entail would be like. Also, some placement students were left without work laptops for a couple of weeks at the start of placement.
Working from home
Really would be happy to work for Lloyds again. They offer a fantastic work life balance and are very understanding of personal I&D circumstances that I have. The culture is terrific and everyone within the organisation is really nice and that has made the year even more fun. Everyone that I have met throughout the bank has been really nice and I really hope to work at Lloyds again.
The Culture
Really good social seen amongst the placement students. There was about 20 placement students in my office and we tried to socialise and get to know each other as much as we could early into the placement year, which really helped us all settle in. We hung out throughout the year and it was really nice getting to know everyone.
A fortune! But that is London for you. The most expensive place you'll probably ever live. Don't even think about saving. Not worth it as you won't enjoy the year if you're constantly stressing about money. So just enjoy the year and try not the pain of £5 pints hurt you too much.
There were many opportunities. We were encouraged to use one work day for helping the community. We were also encouraged to help out with charity work for Lloyds which I did and was a really rewarding activity. Also, there were many work socials which were organised and really fun to attend.
