The Role
I enjoyed my placement at Eaton a lot, I was given a lot of responsibility from the start which made me feel like a part of the business and team. I was also able to achieve a wide all round experience and wasn't confined to my role.
As mentioned above from the get go I was given a lot of responsibility in the form of a key project. This made me feel valued as it meant that Eaton must've believed in my capabilities to complete the project.
I have been working very closely to my supervisor this year, due to this he has been available to me in all times of need whenever I required help on a task and he would never give the straight answer to my question, he would always explain the process behind all the things I previously dint know.
Due to working in R&D, we didn't have reoccurring tasks that needed to be done on a monthly basis like you would in a more business orientated role, but as the work given to us was project management based this meant that their was always work to be doing.
When arriving at Eaton the amount of responsibility we were given was unexpected as it was a lot. the work given to me was project management, this meant that i was solely responsible for the progress of the project and it was my task to make sure that the whole project team knew what they were doing and that they were getting it done.
so this year at Eaton I have been able to gain skills and experience that I would not have of been able to gain at university. I have gained a good experience this year in business engineering which i wouldn't have of achieved at university. this have given me the advantage over others who didnt go on placement and are lacking in this area and i believe this will put me a greater advantage in the future.
The Company
The mitcheldean site is quite small so therefore the atmosphere allowed you were able to develop relationships with other employees easily.
this placement was well organised and had a good structure as we had regular training sessions and events
Eaton provided training in professional skills for all interns and if i ever required functional specific training the company always tried to facilitate it.
Flexi Time
National Travel
Company Parties/Events
Above 25 days holiday
I would like to work for Eaton as they give you a lot of opportunity to develop and progression in your respective field.
The Culture
due there being many interns a the mitcheldean site and some coming from the same university this meant that we all felt quite comfortable and relaxed around each other, this then lead us doing more things outside of work.
coming from London I was used to high costs so for me it was reasonably priced in terms of rent where as fellow interns and colleagues from the northern part of the UK found it more expensive. but for socialising the closest city of Gloucester was very reasonably priced and had everything you would need.
Gloucester was good for nightlife if you are into your traditional British pub and for bars and clubs Cheltenham was your better option but it did come with a higher cost.
yes there a lot of opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work. mainly things were organised between individuals but everyone was open and welcoming and you could easily get involved.
