The Role
This was the greatest experience of my life so far. It was so amazing I would do it all over. Made some wonderful friends and the mentor ship has been incredible in setting me up and guiding me towards further education and my future.
EY values each of there students tremendously. Especially getting one to one mentoring is awesome.
The support has been amazing. All I have to do is send an email and they are willing to go the extra mile to help and answer or provide any help which I may require.
I was a smart futures student which entailed learning valuable professional work skills s well as learning about the financial industry while having bucket loads of fun and networking and making amazing friends.
The responsibility that I had during the programme varied from day to day. The first week, we were in teams assigned with tasks such as preparing for a presentation. In relation to that responsibility, I was the leader for the first time which consisted of making the majority of the decisions. However, I was not team leader everyday but kept switching as each day went by.
I majorly developed my confidence and giving presentations. Also enhanced my leadership skills and attributing to a team.
The Company
It was fun. Everyday was different which is good as everyday I was excited to go to the office. Each place that we went to outside the office was very well planned and everything was good.
The leader of the placement was very organised. Each day was well thought and felt as though it was planned by 10 people but it was in fact planned by only one person. We stuck to a good schedule. We never went over lunch.
EY has invested in me in relation to the qualifications that I had to complete during my time at the office. The qualifications that I had acquired are expensive.
This was a placement, not a full time job which means that there were no employment prospects within the organisation. However, if I ever happen to apply for a role in this company, my likelihood of getting a job with the same firm has increased dramatically.
The Culture
I met a lot of people that I still speak to this day. One of the major skills that I had learnt at EY is networking.
In relation to what we got at lunch, EY provided me with a voucher everyday to eat at a restaurant which means that the only cost associated with the placement is travel expenses. I got a bus pass each week which costed me £12 per week.
It was good. When it came to the last day of the placement, as a team we celebrated by going to a restaurant at night and afterwards getting ICECREAM. The city was very moving and there wasn't any social unrest.
Yes. Because the placement runs each year, I had the opportunity to visit a city to be questioned about my overall experience at EY. But I also had the opportunity to go to other cities to meet people who were involved in the placement in their city which boosted my networking skills.
