About You
I thoroughly enjoyed my time with the firm. The firm went above and beyond to ensure that each vacation schemer is learning the most from the two weeks. The Talent team arranged multiple sessions to introduce the different practice groups in the firm. These sessions are well-organised are informative. During these two weeks, I gained invaluable insights into the legal practice, work culture, and different sectors. I was involved in a good range of projects and connected with an interesting group of people.
I felt being treated as part of the team. From the start of the scheme, I was entrusted with real work. Everyone took the time to explain the factual background of each task and this allows me to understand the bigger picture of the transaction/project. Additionally, I was also given feedback on my work. Whenever possible, I was provided with a copy of the final product (ie, the legal advice sent to the client).
There were two formal feedback sessions where I received feedback regarding my time in the allocated departments. Additionally, I a trainee buddy in each department that I was allocated to. The Talent team is incredibly helpful at all times.
The exposure, insights and feedback that I collected from this scheme allow me to discover my areas of development.
The Company
We were being informed of the allocated departments almost a month in advance. We were also provided with a detailed timetable for all events happening during the scheme. There were no logistic difficulties at all throughout the scheme.
Incredible. Everyone in the firm, from Partners, Legal Secretaries to members from Business Services, is incredibly helpful, genuine and friendly. There were two social events where all vacation schemers get to know more about each other. There is also a group presentation where we developed camaraderie.
This is a firm that truly appreciates each member. As long as one took the initiatives, there were plenty of opportunities to explore various projects. There were also well-organised training sessions. The firm embraces open-office culture; everyone is willing to tell you more about their practice, their views on a legal career or their personal experience with the firm.
The positive experience I had with the firm affirmed my aspiration to train with this particular law firm. The key factors are the interesting client portfolio, the wide range of projects, the dedicated training and incredible culture.
Most certainly. I believed culture lies in the people. Being at the firm for two weeks and working as part of the team allowed me to interact with the people, ranging from IT supports, trainees and Partners.
I was given a wide range of tasks. I attended client meetings, conducted research, translated agreements and drafted documents. I relished each task and was certain that the career as a solicitor is for me.
Everything Else
I am happy with the pay. Also, the canteen is amazing.
We were all encouraged to reach out and to network. Everyone was very welcoming and was willing to take their time to understand more about us.
There were daily sessions in which associates will introduce a particular practice group. They were more than willing to answer questions and will always encourage us to reach out.
Yes, there were departmental talks. At the end of these talks, they will talk about the events that they participated. There were opportunities to get involved in the legal advice clinic that the firm partnered with.
100% yes. This vacation scheme is an amazing opportunity to gain insights into interesting projects with an incredible team. Most importantly, having spoken to associates and partners, I formed a better understanding of what is required of a successful solicitor.
