The Role
Very enjoyable
Very friendly, supportive working environment. Good work did not go unnoticed.
Buddy was always on hand to help and advise if needs be. Management friendly and approachable, gave good general career advice.
Some days were quite slow, with not enough work to do.
Could have had greater autonomy over larger areas of the audit, but responsibility was fair given I was only an untrained intern.
Organisational life-skills gained are invaluable. Good experience working in an corporate environment.
The Company
Professional and hard working, but could chat and banter between colleagues. Stayed until the work got done but no later - it was a grown up way of approaching work.
My internship was split between UK and US, and the transition between the two was a bit ad hoc. Once settled into respective offices, was better.
Definitely gave a good grounding in the principles and methodologies of audit, and offered opportunities to learn about how best to develop my career in audit and other divisions of the firm.
Subsidised Canteen
International Travel
They offered me a job with a variety of start dates and audit stream choices. Would have been fast tracked into other divisions of the firm too (e.g. consultancy). Needless to say I accepted!
The Culture
First week is spent at out of office training in a hotel. Get to spend a lot of social time with other interns which is great way to get to know them. Was great fun. However, as I spent the next 3 weeks of my internship in the US (while almost all other interns didn't), I missed out a bit on the social side of things by the time I returned to London. Still met loads of friendly fun people despite this.
Central London and Downtown Chicago - pretty expensive, especially if you had to pay rent for the entirety of the intenship!
Amazing, if expensive.
In particular the time I spent in Chicago out of the office, was basically a holiday; there was tonnes of stuff to see and do.
