About You
It was a good way of getting into the clothes industry. The company was very welcoming, even though the placement was for a brief period. I have learned several skills which will hopefully help to give me a leg up in the job market in similar roles in the future.
Whilst I did feel welcome at the company, it was still evident that I was not an employee and not a full time member of staff. However, the employees of the company were very friendly towards me and I felt, for my brief time there, a part of a team.
I received the necessary guidance I needed to take part in the day to day tasks that were required of me. Most of the time that I needed further support in an area of work unclear to me, I could ask one of the employees to assist me and explain to me what to do.
Whilst the experience of being here has provided me with skills which i previously did not have, the company and my time there in itself I feel will not have a distinct impact on my degree. However, I believe that it gave me a good experience of the working world and this line of work, should I wish to pursue it in the future
The Company
There was a good structure to my days there, with there never being a point where I was not occupied with something. Every day there was a clear outline of what my objectives should be for that particular day or week. I felt like this was a constructive experience, as I gained a variety of experiences in a working environment.
I felt welcome at the company, and generally the full time employees were happy to accommodate me within their busy working environment. This was good as it felt like I was part of a team for my brief stay there. The atmosphere whilst not necessarily friendly, was professional and productive.
Whilst I feel like the company didnt directly invest in me aside from assigning particular staff to assist me in my day to day tasks, I am thankful that they gave me the opportunity to be part of their working environment. They did pay or my expenses, in regards to travel and lunch.
I felt welcome and part of a team, but obviously being an unpaid experience, and being explicitly told i wasnt a full time member of staff did make it see like it didnt feel as a impactive as a full time role would. But i still took away a lot of useful skills with me.
The company was a fun place to work at, and due to the friendliness and hospitality of the employees there, i felt very welcome. But this didnt mean it wasnt a professional and productive environment. I would happily do a placement here again, as it left me feeling like I left an environment in which i felt wanted.
Whilst going into this company I wasnt interested in this line of work necessarily, it left me with a good idea of what working in a large team environment was like. However, after leaving, I immediately felt like this was a place I could return to at some point in the future.
Everything Else
I recieved lunch and travel money
Whilst I met several of the employees and had lunch with a a few of them, allowing me to get to know them, I didnt really have the opportunity to meet higher ranking member of the company. But understandably, they have no reason to allow a temporary worker there to do so.
There wasn't really any networking events which i could attend.
There was a work football league once a week, that if I was a full time member of staff then I would have definitely taken part. However only being there on a temporary basis, this was not something i could partake in. I'm sure there are more activities, but I was not made aware of these.
I would definitely recommend this insight to one of my friends. I gained a lot of valuable experience within the world of work that will undoubtedly serve me well in the future. I felt welcome at this company, and it is an experience I would happily take part in again.
