    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I have really enjoyed my past month at Savills in Birmingham. The month has flown by and I have been involved in some really interesting projects within the Valuation department and have been given large amounts of responsibility from the get go! It is a really pleasant working environment and people have put their trust in me.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • On the whole I have been treated the same as a Graduate, on a professional level. I have been given challenging and rewarding work and tasks to complete which has really boosted my professional knowledge of Valuation. The work I have completed has been incorporated and used in live projects for clients and everybody has been very appreciative of the work I have completed.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • My mentor, [This section of the comment has been removed by a member of the RateMyPlacement Team because it did not meet our site terms and conditions], has been very busy over the past month but has always found time to set me tasks, explain things to me and involve me in a number of projects. [This section of the comment has been removed by a member of the RateMyPlacement Team because it did not meet our site terms and conditions], as well as the other graduates in the department, have always been happy to provide guidance and answer any questions I have.

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • Overall, the workload was steady and good and when I asked for another task I would get one straight away. The work I have been given has been interesting and varied, and I have really been able to get to grips with full official valuation reports, and drafted some myself. However, I would have liked to get out the office a little more than I have done.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I have been given lots of responsibility. I have been able to meet clients and make decisions that influence a Valuation greatly. All the staff have put trust in me and they have rarely doubted my judgement, which has given me a lot more confidence in the work that I complete.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • A major skill I have developed is applying the Valuation knowledge we learn on the Real Estate course to a real life project. It has reinforced the knowledge in my head and will definitely help me during my final year. The opportunity to pitch and to network with different Graduates and Directors in Savills has allowed me to expand my network of contacts that I wish to keep in contact with, and has helped me to explore lots of different opportunities within Savills.

  • Everybody is relaxed and approachable which has made for a very enjoyable Internship. There is often activities going on and lots of opportunities to network and get to know people. Most of the departments are integrated and I found myself getting to know a lot more people because of this.

I feel a lot more informed about Savills as a company now and of opportunities I can aim towards in my future graduate career at Savills.
