About You
I really enjoyed the way in which actual, chargeable work was given to us rather than some hypothetical, HR-created task.
Extremely. We were given actual work to do and every member of the departments I sat in was extremely approachable.
A lot. Having both a supervisor and a trainee buddy to lean on was particularly useful.
Gaining such a clear insight into life as a commercial lawyer will certainly shape my career going forward.
The Company
It ran seamlessly. There is potential scope to meet with the supervisors in our second week prior to starting on the Monday but perhaps this should be left to us to organise instead.
There is slight variation in the culture between the departments but generally the atmosphere was extremely welcoming.
The personal training and development consisted of department workshops and help from our supervisors. Extremely beneficial.
We were given actual chargeable work so our vacation scheme was essentially the same as starting a training contract (albeit in a shorter amount of time).
Very much so. Sitting in two departments, and so a cross-section of the firm, gave you a full understanding of life as a trainee and the culture within.
Extremely valuable. The insight was extremely accurate given that we were involved in actual chargeable work alongside business development tasks (writing external-facing newsletters, for example).
Everything Else
The pay was in line with City firm rates for placement schemes.
Yes, two workshops from different departments and a networking lunch. I was also invited to departmental social activities (tennis tournament in my first week and drinks in my second week).
Extremely good and lots of them. See above.
Yes, there seems to be a lot on offer in terms of sports teams, choir and drama activities.
Absolutely. It was great.
