About You
I thought that the insight provided the students on the vacation scheme with a balanced view of the company, from social events to pairings with trainees within your department, to useful focus on sessions there was a true mix of experiences that made the two weeks very enjoyable.
Although I do not have previous legal training, I felt that my role in the work made a difference and that I could help the trainees and even higher-level solicitors in the tasks they were completing.
With the role of buddies and supervisors and the check-ins from HR, I felt like I received a lot of guidance and support whilst still being given space to manage my own time and tasks.
I have now graduated with a degree in History but I intend to complete the GDL later this year, and I think the technical insight into the law both commercial and beyond will definitely be useful in my future studies.
The Company
I enjoyed the rotation after one week and the opportunities to have insight into other departments through the focus-on sessions. I also thought the insight was not purely structured around work, there were a good amount of social events as well.
I did not feel that there was a competitive or unfriendly atmosphere during the insight, both amongst the trainees or other students. I thought everyone was welcoming and enthusiastic and seemed genuinely passionate about their work and incredibly hardworking.
There were not formal training sessions so it would be difficult to say that the firm invested in my training, however the individuals I worked with personally definitely attempted to advise me on my future career and my studies in the law.
I felt that I received a truthful insight into the company and was able to experience the life of a trainee at Taylor Wessing. The meetings with partners also allowed the student to gain an insight into life beyond that of a trainee at the firm.
The meetings with partners, associates and trainees as well as the assigned group presentation on an issue important to Taylor Wessing meant that I felt that I really understood the company culture by the end of the experience and found that it was friendly and nonhierarchical.
Often the trainees would discuss their experience studying law previously or sponsored by the company and would talk about their perceived futures within the firm. They made work in a commercial law firm seem like an attractive future career path.
Everything Else
I was paid for both weeks I was working there but not reimbursed for expenses.
There were frequent social events with a mix of people from throughout the firm.
The social events were engaging and fun as well as an opportunity to learn more about the firm.
I found out about extra-curricular activities, charity ventures, and business development initiatives that the employees had gotten involved in.
Yes, if they are interested in the kind of firm that Taylor Wessing is.
