The Role
Working at Citi as an intern is a very good experience in my opinion. It is an opportunity to meet some great people and learn an enormous amount in a short space of time with a lot of help from experienced bankers. I would definitely recommend Citi to other people considering a career in investment banking.
Everyone that I worked with in my team were always happy for me to help out on tasks and constantly ask them questions. It was great to always be included and involved in some way on deals and be given responsibilities with regard to the work needed.
I think that Citi are great in this sense in that I met everyone within my team and all were willing to give up time during their day to offer help and support.
I had work to do every single day which is great because the point of an internship in my opinion is to learn as much as possible for the time that you are there. Its a great opportunity and so I think its great to try and ask for as much work as possible to get the most out of the internship. You should expect to work late nights most days will be after 10pm. However, you do not start early on mornings and its the same at any investment bank. I think Citi is one of the better ones for not overloading interns with work and long hours.
I would say that I was given quite a lot of responsibility, you get the full experience of what it would be like to be a full time analyst and the tasks that you would have to do. However, all tasks were given with plenty of support and there's always opportunity to ask for help if you are struggling. Citi is a great experience and I felt very comfortable to ask for more responsibility if I wanted to.
I think summer internships are a great learning experience, it is invaluable and you will not learn any better elsewhere than on the job. University does not prepare you for a career in banking and the best way to do so is apply for an internship. My learning curve has been enormous and have developed skills I wouldn't have anywhere else.
The Company
within my team the atmosphere was very friendly
The internship was organised extremely well and ran very smoothly
I think I have had a great learning experience and that is down to the people working at Citi being extremely willing to help and give up their time.
I would very much like to return to Citi in the future
