The Role
I enjoyed it a lot. The people I worked with were very friendly and accommodating, and willing to help whenever needed. The work was stimulating, and I was constantly learning.
I felt very valued by everyone I worked with and for. I was able to contribute to real, on-going deals and projects having a real impact in the world.
My managers and superiors were always willing to help with any questions I had, though they also encouraged independence.
My business varied. Some days were very quiet, while other days would be very busy and very long.
I was given a good amount of responsibility considering I was only an intern. I mainly assisted analysts and associates on their work, helping them out when they were busy, and contributing any ideas I had.
Although these skills are unlikely to assist in my degree as my degree is unrelated to investment banking, the skills will certainly help me in my career beyond university.
The Company
Friendly and helpful. Naturally when it was busy things were more frantic, but almost everyone always found some time to assist you.
Majority was very well organised. My only issue is the workflow and staffing system. Some days I would do very little until 4 or 5pm, when I would get a load of work leaving me working until 1am. If the staffing process was more streamlined interns could use their time much more efficiently, and teams could operate more efficiently in general.
The company invested a lot in training. Before the internship started we did an online training course. The first week of the internship was spent in classroom training, then after that, the team would help me learn practical skills for the job. Training and development was well-handled.
Subsidised Canteen
Subsidised/Company Gym
Very appealing. There is a clear promotion path within each team, with responsibilities clearly laid out.
The Culture
Yes, when we had time we would get drinks, and grab coffee.
Fairly expensive.
Unknown.
No, we generally worked quite late, so there was little opportunity for after-work activities.
