The Role
I enjoyed a lot of different experiences as well as colleagues including me in their work to let me get the knowledge of what they are doing on a daily basis and to prepare me to what it would be like to work at Rolls Royce Motor Cars Limited UK
Most colleagues valued me and my work as a equel, but it happened that some saw me as a inferior because of my position in the company. I don't feel that Rolls Royce generally see interns as "student helpers", but as full grown collegues, although somewhat unexperienced in the field.
My manager supported me in my job role as any manager should. I don't feel that I have been "managed" or "guided" as an intern, but as a employee on equal terms as the full time employed. I could have wished a little more guidence from my manager, especially in the beginning, but I was lucky that some of my colleagues has been in the same position as me and was eager to help
As I got employed a month and a half before my predecessor finished, I didn't have a lot of work to do, but used my spare time to learn VBA, which turned out to be very helpful in my role. As I got more into the company and got to learn my colleagues to know, they started to include me in more work.
I got in charge of a lot of reports as well as a weekly meeting. I feel like I could have gotten more responsibilities, but as I'm only here for half a year, it might have ended up as more work to start to include me and give me resposibility for tasks.
Most of what I have done has nothing to do with my education, however I do see myself in a manager role in the future in which it was very helpful and informative to see how the general managers work at Rolls Royce. I wish I was given the opportunity to visit Munich to see the development fase
The Company
The general atmosphere at the office is plesent, however, as there was a need for more spaces, the interns got cramped into smaller spaces which only barely works as we still need a second monitor to do our work. Also it makes you feel a bit inferior to your colleagues.
I would hardly call it an internship, as you have a clear job role to support your manager. It seems more like a placement for half a year. However I was lucky that my manager supported my wish to experience other job roles and gave me a lot of time off, to allow me to attend other meeting etc.
I think this "internship" is a great way for BMW group to include you and teach you in the manners of the firm without having to pay the full salary of a regular employee. In this way they make sure that if I return, that I will be a lot quicker to get included and know what to do and where to go.
Staff Sales/Staff Shop
I don't really think that Rolls Royce / BMW Group gives a good impression to work here, as an intern. Since interns are used as cheap labor more than students that should be mentored and shown every possible position in the firm got let them know if there is a position that they wished to apply for after graduating.
