    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I really enjoyed my placement with Rolls-Royce Motor Cars, I think I was lucky enough to get a role that both suited my personality but also related directly to my degree appropriately. This allowed me to apply myself fully and emmerse myself in the role in order to get a proper overall experience within the company.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • My role allowed me to interact directly with the Product and Marketing teams. The culture between these teams is very encouraging and I fit within the team rather quickly. Because of this, i felt very valued at an early stage in my placement and I was able to fit into my role quicker.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • I had a very unique situation that my initial manager was going on maternity leave and we had no line manager. Because of this overlap and how timings went I was able to work by myself for a month. This level of exposure helped me greatly with gaining experience and extra responsibility. Once my managers maternity came in, we worked collaboratively and supported one another

    4/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • It all depended on the day and the projects. I had to coordinate projects and every day emails and queries that came in. Around the deadlines of our projects, I tended to be very busy whereas during the inbetween times, I had enough to be able to fill up my day.

    5/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • As stated under a previous question, I think i was lucky enough to get a lot more responsibility than other interns would have in their roles. Because of this, I felt like I was able to fully emmerse within the role and the business. I felt like i was adding value

    4/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • My placement at Rolls-Royce was my first proper job within the Marketing industry. It not only taught me skills that related directly to the industry, but taught me many skills that I can apply to my life. I moved across the world from New Zealand for this role and I definitely can take things back with me

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The atmosphere in our office differed greatly. It depended on how many people were away or travelling for business. Sometimes the office was quieter which we put music on to make the day go faster. And some days it was bustling with people and there werent enough desks. It all depended.

    4/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • Overall, i think the placement was pretty well organised. I cant think of any situation where I thought otherwise.

    4/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • I was lucky enough to attend a Brand Day Seminar that one of our suppliers held in London. This opportunity helped me mingle and meet many people within the industry as well as learn a lot about different aspects of Marketing. I was also allowed to sit in on many meetings or even conduct them as well as travel for supplier meetings.

    4/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Flexi Time

    Subsidised/Company Gym

    Company Parties/Events

    Working from home

    3/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • Getting a role long term with the company would be a great opportunity. However, at this early stage in my career I think that I want to gain more experience elsewhere to bring back (hopefully) to the company and better it. I think that taking a role with the company directly after my placement would lead to me being in the role for a long time as there are many desirable aspects and perks that come with it.

    4/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Yes. i think that having the other placement students here helps create a healthy social scene. Because we were all in the same situation, we were all hanging out quite early in our placements. I think that If i didnt have that level of social network, it would have been difficult to enjoy being in Chichester as the crowd tends to be slightly older

    4/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Rent and cost of living was reasonably high, however the earnings that you got from the job was definitely enough to survive off of. Socialising in the area wasnt too expensive as there were definitely options to do activities that didnt require much of a cost

    4/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • The night life wasnt very good In chichester as the only club was Vestry and there is only so many times you can go to the same place. We did sometimes go to Bognor, Brighton and Portsmouth. But getting to and from was a logistical nightmare and tended not to be the best option. other than that, places close pretty early in this area.

    2/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • I think that if you were proactive in finding or creating activities there was definitely opportunities out there. I think sometimes you had to take the initiative to be apart of something and to push yourself into doing things but finding a group of people that were interested inthe same sort of thing wasnt too difficult.
